tipping an AXE sl

Has anyone had any experience with tip trimming an AXE Super lite shaft. I have a reg in a titleist 905 and feel it is a bit soft, not much kick, but smooth. I have a 95-100 swing speed with a smooth transition. I can play quite a soft shaft, in fact a lady proforce shaft works fine. Currently using a Titleist 910 with the Kaili reg shaft ( made for titleist). I'm wondering if tip trimming would give it more snap or if it would lower the kick point too much. Or if I should just order the Excalibur 6 reg, or the SL stiff? Any ideas?

If it is fitted and trimmed to playing length you don't have a lot of scope for tipping. The 905 is also through bore so the shaft will be playing to it's full strength (so to speak).

The bend profiles for the SL were posted a while ago and the SL has almost identical stiffness to the Excalibur 6. The 6 has a little less torque so it might feel just a little tighter.

If the looseness in feel is affecting performance then you probably better looking for another shaft, probably from a different range (with a different bending profile). The only shaft from the AXE range worth trying is the 6+ which has a stronger tip than the standard 6 and the SL.

Thanks, my 905 is only inserted 1 1/2 inches, so my next step was to try a deeper insertion, with the eventual goal to put it in my Adams 9064 head (which i would have to trim). It has a reg aldila rip shaft which is just too much shaft for me despite my ego wanting it to work.

1" of tipping will firm it up quite a bit. I have a golf forum buddy who installed one thought the same as you. Pulled it and tipped it 1" and reinstalled. He said it felt much better to him. I believe he is right around our swingspeed as well.

Just a follow up, once I realized I was using my "range" swing I smoothed it out and the shaft feels great. Afew friends have also tried them, all with swings that load a shaft more than I do. They all really liked them as well. I installed it in a titleist adapter and am currently playing it in my 910. Also thought I would try an iron shaft in the 5 and 6 irons, the reg flex and not the tour model. These are solid and now im ordering shafts for the rest of my irons.
