What are Mizuno "Dynaflex" shafts - seems nobody knows?

They are fitted to the MX19 irons and I believe the MX17s as well. I assume they are True Temper?

I have a set of MX19 and contemplating changing the shafts - for example prefer the Dynalite Gold XP in the MX100s.

My best guess from the weight of my MX irons is that the regular flex shafts are around 122g.

Maybe DG R200?

Can anybody help identify this shaft? - I've searched the Net and nothing, zero.

I would also like recommendations for a better regular steel shaft that would suit the MX19.

Can't offer specific help on the MX 19 Dynaflex shaft but from memory the stock MX Lite shaft in the MX 100 and MX Fli Hi was a 120 gram shaft from the dynalite family.

Since you like the Dynalite Gold XP it might be more cost effective to buy a discounted set of JPX 800 HD's (which come with the 110 gram Dynalite Gold XP as standard). There are plenty of sets showing up as they are coming to the end of their product life cycle (example 1, example 2) and I have seen a few slightly less expensive than this on ebay.

The JPX 800 HD's offers slightly more forgiveness than the MX 19 with a slightly progressive head size, IMO a worthwhile upgrade on the MX 19.

Thanks for answering. I believe you are right in saying that the MX Lite shaft was True Temper, but which one. I suppose you can tell by the stepping?

In another thread you wrote "The Dynamic Gold XP were exclusive to Mizuno until the start of 2012 but they are now available as part of the True temper range". These are a mid launch shaft according to TT. Nessism wrote "Taylor Made had Dynamic Gold XP and Mizuno had Dynalite Gold XP." I assume that both the MX19 and MX100 were high launch being GI clubs. That points to the Dynalite range as you say. I don't know if either the Dynaflex or MX Lite were exactly the present Dynalite XP. I'll have to have a closer look at my clubs and how the shafts are stepped. Judging by my sets, the MX19 is 15g heavier than the equivalent club in the MX100. That suggests the shafts were around 120 in the MX19 and 105 in the MX100. The 105g shaft may be more like the present Dynalite SL. Maybe the MX19 were like the present Dynalite 100 at 122g. That would fit. I'm just guessing here.

For the record, my MX19 8i weighs 449g and MX100 8i weighs 431g (standard grips). My MX19 9i weighs 457g and MX100 9i weighs 442g. If you look at the Maltby MPF data the 6i head is 263 on the MX19 and 261 on the MX100. So there's a difference in the shafts - the MX100 is lighter.

Just seen KaBoom's post - yes, I'm in the UK so that figures. Were the MX19 shafts actually marked "Dynalite SL" in the States? Mine are labelled Dynaflex like it says in the Mizuno Europe timeline. Click on the club to see the shaft options.

http://golf.mizunoeu...ns-timeline.php

You can also see from the timeline that the MX19 was 2008 and the MX100 was 2009 when Mizuno was using True Temper shafts on an OEM basis. I guess that designation of shafts may have changed when Ames/True Temper was acquired in 2010 by Griffon.

Based on the weights of the club sets:
- MX Lite in the MX100 (2009) may be equivalent to Dynalite Gold SL at 104g used in MX25 and 950 in 2008. Same period. But in the USA the MX100 used the Dynalite Gold XP. Haven't looked at the step pattern on mine yet

- Dynaflex in the MX17 and 19 may be equivalent to Dynalite 100 at 122g weight wise, but step pattern is different. In the USA the shaft seems to have been the Dynalite Gold SL, but Dynaflex step pattern is different from the current version of that as well

Dynaflex step pattern from tip is: 2@ 3/4", 1@ 2", 2@ 3/4", 3@ 1 5/8", 3@ 2"

This is nothing like any of the current shaft step patterns listed by True Temper

The MX Lite shaft in my UK MX100s has this stepping, from tip up:

2@ 1.5"
2@ 3"
2@ 1.5"
1@ 3"
[email protected]"

This isn't the same as the Dynalite Gold XP which was fitted in the USA. It also appears to weigh about 105g while the Dynalite Gold XP was 117g

Likewise the MX19 in the UK marked "Dynaflex" has this stepping, from tip up:

2@ .75"
1@ 2"
2@ .75"
3@ 1.625"
3@ 2"

This isn't the same as the Dynalite Gold SL which was fitted in the USA. It also appears to weigh about 122g while the Dynalite Gold SL was 104g

In fact these shafts are nothing like any current model listed by True Temper. God knows what shafts were fitted to these UK models - there's certainly no information on the Net and several have asked fruitlessly. Mizuno has never given any information on these shafts. If they actually were True Temper at all they were both odd shafts.
