First JDM Driver help

Recommended Posts

I have decided to get an S Yard Driver (my first JDM product). I am having trouble deciding between the T.388 and the XV. I am a 6 handicap and a good driver of the ball. I currently play a Callaway Razr Fit xtreme with a Tour AD DI 6s. I like the description of the T.388 (boring flight) but am slightly worried about the size. I also want to make sure the flight is not to low for when the fairways are soft and roll is difficult to get. For reference sake, I play my Callaway at 9.5 and have a ball flight that is fairly high.

Also, would you recommend trying the stock shafts or sticking with my Tour AD?

Any thoughts or experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I didn't have problems making solid contact with the T.388 & am a higher hcap than you. the T.388 will be lower launching than your current setup I imagine but very low spin and the rollout is ridiculous. I'm not a huge fan of the stock shaft, would put your taddi6s in either of those heads. what's you club head speed w driver? if you're up in the 109+ go T.388 if in the 100-105 look at the xv.

any particular reason you're focused on s-yard? would recommend look at jbeam and epon. the 103 apoears a bit like a 420cc head at address but plays much bigger.

The S Yards just looked good to me, so I started researching them. Tough since I can't see any of them in person. My driver swing speed is in the 103-105 range. I will also take a look at the others you mentioned. Thanks

i am in the exact same ballpark in terms of swing speed and i picked up the t388 9.5 in the stock shaft (stiff) and it works marvelously. i am a very consistent ball striker with a 5hdcp with a smooth but quick swing and in the stock shaft this driver launches straight, piercing drives. i have tried other shafts in this head, ie crazy ly 02 7.2 and diamana ahina 65s and neither could compare to the stock shaft. perhaps it had to do with hosel depth but im just not sure and will probably experiment more next year.

Also, i was coming from a 910D2 and Kamui Ray driver, both 440CC and higher and i have had no issue converting to the smaller t388. i find it actually easier to hit than the larger drivers. i wonder if that has to do with growing up with a 983K driver for many years.

in all honesty, prior to owning this driver i was probably a 7hdcp with a 260 carry and roll drive. Now, i have added 15-20 yards and routinely shoot low to mid 70s. this driver completely changed my game and was worth every penny.

Which Jbeam would you reccomend? Also, any others I should consider?

A new jBeam design for TRPX is coming out (might rival the 435II):

Also take a look at the Crazy heads (there is a new 450 or the 435II).

If you are looking for forgiveness, distance and feel, the Maxima Type-V could be a good choice as well.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
