GolfTec in San Jose

Been looking to get some lessons at the Golftec inside the Golfsmith at the San Jose store but don't know if it's worth the money? Went once and asked some questions but one of the guys seemed kinda rude was wondering if anyone has had great experiences there? if any? Maybe if the instructors are any good to be dropping that kind of money? Or if any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I've not been to the Golftec in San Jose, but I have been going to the one in Austin off and on for a couple years. IMHO, I really like the incorporation of the video and analysis tools. Again, IMHO, seeing it on video really helps me figure out what the teacher is trying to get me to do and what I am actually doing. For ne, having the video speeds up the learning process at least by twice as fast.

That being said, I would have a few caveats before you jump in feet first:

1. Talk to the teacher and see what their philosophy is. The Golftec way is to try to get your shoulder turn, hip turn, and angles all similar to pros. IMHO, strict adherence to that approach is not a good plan. But if your teacher really just uses the metrics as a ball park measurment and is really more focused on helping you be better with what you have naturally, that's a better approach. In short, I guess what I intend to say is that we all can't swing like Adam Scott, so trying to fit everyone into that mold likely won't work, so if that's their approach, I'd not recommend it.

2. Golftec tends to be more mechanical. If you are more of a mechanical player, then you will probably like it. I have a few friends who are really feel players and not very mechanical. They hated Golftec and thougt that it cluttered their minds with way too many metrics and angles, and instructions, etc. For this reason alone, you should try to get a 2 or 3 lesson package to start.

3. They really want to sell you a 10 lesson package, which is like $900. I was able to convince them to sell me smaller packages by telling them something like this: "Look I can afford the package, but $900 won't fly under the radar on the CC bill. But a purchase like $300 would not get much scrutiny. And that's why I can't spring for such a large expense." Once I put it that way, they sold me 3 lesson packages.

4. If you end up liking it, I would really try to get your money's worth and make use of the online access to videos and lessons. each lesson is recorded and available online. The way I use it, is to take a lesson, then refer to the video online for like two weeks while at the driving range. So its like having the lession several more times without paying for more lessons. They don't like it when I schedule the lessons like 3-4 weeks apart and just watch the videos online in between, but its been very effective for me.
