Superstitions During a Round

I used to be very strict with 2 tees in my right pocket and nothing else on me, now I carry my cell in my left, ipod in my right, and a handful of tees in my right.

i always use the "pro-v1 392" to kinda line by ball up but dont really go by that. I always mark my ball with a quarter and face up. Cant play with another ball in my pocket, usually have 1-2 tees, quarter, and repair tool and pencil. keep scorecard in back left pocket. And put keys and wallet in bag.

I putt out every hole--no exceptions.

 

I do so for two reasons:

 

1) It's an affront to the game to not complete the purpose of playing--to put the ball in hole.

 

2) It is unsatisifying to not hear the sound of the ball hitting the cup when you hole out. Kind of like not fully completing another act most of us enjoy so much. (cool)

Always walk with 2 balls in pocket.

 

Drives and putts always aligned with the pro Vx sign. Never use money or a tee peg to mark my ball on the green.

- Tee's behind ears give me bad shots.

- Marker left pocket, pitchfork right pocket.

- If my game is off, I remove any headwear.

So many to count; here are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

 

1. Always carry 3 Zero Friction tees, 3 natural wood 2 1/8" tees, 1 ten yen coin, 1 1973 quarter, 1 buffalo head nickel and a divot tool from Emerald Valley GC in Creswell,Oregon in my right pocket and I carry a single tube of chapstik in my left.

 

2. I always restock my bag after every round or practice session, no exceptions. If I break a tee on the range, a new one goes in as soon as I get home.

 

3. I always carry a towel with me onto the putting green, and it gets draped over my right shoulder when I'm not putting. Just before I'm putting, I always wad it up in my right hand and throw it back and to the left of where I'm putting, even if it means I have to take a few steps back to keep from throwing it at someone.

 

4. When I take my putter cover off as I'm walking to putt, I always throw it so it hit the leg of my golf bag. If it misses, I go pick it up and try it again.

 

5. When I tee the ball, the <Pro-v1> is always running parallel to the club face.

 

6. I clean my golf club after every shot, no exceptions. They then get cleaned again when I get home after the round.

 

7. I always have one half of my granola bar on hole 6 and theother half on hole 12.

 

8. I always have one blue gatrade and 1 bottle of water in my golf bag for a tournament.

 

9. I walk off every yardage, even if the sprinkler is obviously only one or two paces in front of me.

 

10. I always put my glove in my back right pocket with the fingers hanging out and the palm facing in.

 

 

While you may think "wow, this guy is nuts and has to be joking" I'm not. It's sad I know, but I need order in my life. This is how I get it. I'm not a very slow player either. I get my yardage, pull my club, take one practice swing and take maybe five seconds over the ball before I hit it. As long as a marker is somewhat close or I have a yardage book, the entire process doesn't take more than about a minute. Strange that a perfectionist would like to play golf huh?
