Playing Torrey Pines

Gdane

Recommended Posts

My wife and I are planning a trip to San Diego, and I was considering trying to get out on the south course early in the morning one day. I read on the website that reservations are not taken for early bird times, and that they are first come, first served. Does anyone know what time people start lining up for tee times on a week day?

BTW, how about the up charge for non San Diego residents? This would be by-far the most I spent to play a course, but I think it would be worth it.

On a weekday a twosome walk on probably would take about 1.5 to 2 hours to get out so show up at 7 and you will be out by 9 at the latest. Seems like a long wait but on weekends it could be 5 hours. The green fees are 181 for the south and 100 for the north. I play there twice a month and I didn't see a 81$ Difference. The north is easier and you get the same conditions. The only reason I play the south is because it's 60$ for residents. But if you have your mind set on the south, be honest with your self and play right tees for your game. I play with tourist all the time and they play the blue tees and get crushed and have an awful time. The course I will test your game no matter what tee you play from. Enjoy it though it is awesome.

Thanks a lot! My wife doesn't play, so I'd be showing up solo. Hopefully that would shorten my wait? Honestly, the only reason I'm leaning towards the south course is because of the fanfare and the views. If there really isn't that big of a difference then I'd play the north.

If it's just you then it will take maybe an hour. The views are good on both sides the south gets more play cause Reese jones re did it and the us open was there. Also something to remember is if you want a cart it cost more. I don't know your finances but if this is the only time you ever play here and you are able to pay the green fee, then I guess the south is the course you would want to play, but if 183$ is steep the north is a awesome back up.

You'll be kicking yourself in the a$$ if you don't play the South. By far the hardest course I've ever played between the yardage, narrow fairways and the rough you might want to quit golf after it eats your lunch but it's totally worth it.

Hands down best bang for your buck out of any course in the nation if you are lucky enough to have a resident card. I'm lucky enough to have one and it pretty much paid for itself 3x over in the first round.

If you're visiting, you've got to play the South. Don't get me wrong, I love both courses but it would be like telling all your friends you got to drive Jimmy Johnson's race car, then follow it up by telling them that you didn't get it above 50 mph. Go big or go home right?

All joking aside, you'll love either course, and the earlier you get there the better. Back when I was in college I would show up around 5:45 am on a weekday and be the 2nd or 3rd guy in line.

Make sure you check the Cities calendar on their website to avoid trying to play the same day as the Men's or Ladies club tournaments. Try to play the South if you can, it's worth the effort. A lot of the locals walk, if you are in decent shape it's not that hard a walk. First out is usually 6:30 weekdays, so the earlier you get there, the faster you get out. Good luck and have a good time!

As stated, check the calendar for any conflicts and I too would agree that you play the south.
Last year as a single, I showed up around 5am on a weekend and was 30th in line. I went off with a group at 7am and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Another in the group and I played the back tees and it was one of the longest golf courses I've ever played thanks to the moisture and lack of roll. A great course and a memorable day.
I am envious of the locals that get to play it often.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
