Bethpage Black - End of 2018 / Start of 2019

Last day to play Bethpage Black this season is Sunday 11/11.

As for reopening in 2019, the course typically opens in mid April, but the schedule is up in the air with the PGA teeing off in May. The goal is to reopen the course for two weeks prior to the PGA with limited rounds. Ultimately, whether or not the course opens to the public before the PGA and for how long will come down to winter weather.

two questions for anyone up there or with info ...

1) am i correct in assuming the course will be fully operational by june 26th? ... heading to scotland, but am stopping in ny since i want my flight to scotland to be direct (avoiding loss of clubs) and since i'm in the area and can play the black a couple of times ...

2) where can one find a schedule of summer tournaments for the bethpage courses so as to make the best possible decision on playing or not?

2. I sometimes get an email schedule of Bethpage monthly. If I get one, you can expect me to post it. Keep your eyes on this thread or calendar thread.

I’d love to see the schedule if you get one Chas. I’ll be at a wedding a few miles from Bethpage in June and am hoping to play the Black the day before. I’m a N.Y. resident and will be playing as a single so I shouldn’t have too much trouble getting a tee time from what I’ve read.

Random question, but what would be the best guess as to when the black course will reopen for play after the PGA? I was talking to some buddies and thought it would be awesome to camp out and be the first group out right after it reopens for play. Probably the closest I will ever come to playing a top level course in prime shape.

Best guess, pretty quick. That seems to be the norm. Google Bethpage and see what they say.

anyone been out to Black since it opened this weekend? I'm in town next week and as i understand they're only taking walk-ups for Black. wondering if i head over on a Wed morning if i'll be sitting around for 4 hours or if i'll be able to get out (they're only allowing tee off from 9-1).

I would love some insight on this as well. I will be vacationing on Montauk over Memorial Day weekend. Hoping to play black on Friday the 24th. My brother is a NY resident. My understanding is that residents can book a week in advance? Or is it just a walk up system? Any insight is appreciated. I really only want to bring the sticks if I can get on the course. Thanks!

I don't think that the May calendar has been released yet. So can't give you any bonafide information yet. If you'll be in Montauk, check out Montauk Downs. It's also a part of the NY Parks System so resident reservations can be made.

Wbassett, your brother can make tee times a week ahead of time. It use to be a call up system but they changed to website access only for tee times last year. He can sign up at https://parks.ny.gov/golf/. If this doesn't work you can wait in line and try to get a time. According to what I read they are supposed to start normal operations at the Black on May 25th so it is going to be difficult to get out that first weekend. Like Chas51 said Montauk Downs is a really nice course that since you are out there you definitely should play.

My son is there now as an intern for the PGA, and he played as a single on Thursday. Got paired with two other singles, got out in less than an hour after getting there.

Do you know what time he got there to get out? Trying to figure out what time I need to get there to make sure I get out

Not sure how lucky he was, but he got there around 10 and got a tee time for 10:52. Good luck!
