Question about recent Big Bertha Irons

I am contemplating getting another iron set. Pretty much narrowed it down to the Big Bertha OS, or the 2014-2015 Big Bertha. I am 65 years old and noticing a reduction in both height and distance of my iron shots. Does anyone know how draw biased these are/ My usual miss is a hook, so I don't want to make it worse. Wood going to a stiffer shaft than my normal alleviate this somewhat? Thanks in advance for your help.

Irons don't really have fade/draw bias the way woods/hybrids can. Now the amount of offset in irons can effect that for some people - but it's really a subjective influence, not really an objective bias. So it really depends on how you personally respond to the visual at set-up and address and how those irons compare to what you are used to playing.

Edit:

Shafts don't have any inherent bias either but there are similar subjective influences based on ones preference for the feel of a shaft loading. But you have to do your own testing to see if that might help or hurt. And even if it does help, it's doesn't mean you wont revert to the original tendencies once you get used to the new feel.

Shaft weight and swing weight tend to be more influential but even there there are no real useful generalizations. It's still a trial and error process to see how you'll respond to those changes.

I wouldn't recommend doing to stiff shaft then you need. There are some shafts designed to prevent hooking. Look up maltby shaft mpf on Google. Great information. Look for H code in the 4 digit shaft code.

If you do to stiff you will lose height and distance. Two things you said you need back. If possible try to get a fitting on trackman or gc quad and discuss with your fitter your wants/needs and your hook miss. Good luck!

As another poster said, offset can produce more of a hook for some players while it might not for others. A couple examples, I tend to play a draw, sometimes a bit of an overzealous one at times. I played G700s last year and am playing New Level 1031s now, both iron sets have more offset than many on this site would care to stomach, but it never really bothered me. I've hit a friend's AP2s, I've hit Ping i500s, and played my Dad's old Wilson blades and they all drew the same amount give or take. Swing path, strike location, club face, and the discrepancy between path and club face are much better predictors of ball flight than most head designs. For instance, I did a fitting on Saturday where the guy hit nothing but big block slices with the BB2019 but when I gave him a P790 or Mizuno Hot Metal Pro with the same shafts, he hit little draws with them. Both of these have reduced offset comparatively to the BB2019.

If you like the look of the BB2019 but are worried about the offset perhaps look at the Callaway Rogue/Rogue X, or look at a shaft that has a higher balance point which will help reduce the hand rotation a bit. But make sure you try them first before making the plunge on an iron that might not be right.
