BMW Charity Pro-Am

Web.com Tour

Tournament details

Date. :Jun 6–9, 2019

Course: Thornblade Club and the Cliffs

Purse : $700,000

Since 2001, the tournament has donated more than $13 million to numerous charities across the Upstate.

This years event will take place June 3 – 9, 2019 at Thornblade Club and The Cliffs Valley. The 2019 tournament will follow a modified format to feature an amateur and celebrity cut at the conclusion of 36 holes after all contestants in the field complete 18 holes at both courses.

“The new Pro-Am format provides a great product for our amateurs and celebrities, and we are excited to offer a memorable week for fans, sponsors and players as we continue to grow one of the Web.com Tour’s longest-running events,” said Bob Nitto, president of South Carolina Charities, Inc. “Thornblade Club and The Cliffs Valley have tremendous histories with our tournament and have been great partners of the Tour, and we are thrilled to be returning to each course.”

Ticket sales and volunteer registration are now open to the public. To purchase tickets or to volunteer, visit BMWCharityGolf.com.

The four charities that will benefit from this year’s tournament are:

Mobile Meals of Spartanburg

Mobile Meals of Spartanburg glorifies God by providing nutritious meals, services and fellowship to the frail and homebound citizens in Spartanburg County. Mobile Meals proves 1,200 seniors a nutritious meal each weekday using 130 volunteers to deliver the meal to their home. Wellness checks are provided by volunteers and staff. Mobile Meals is much more than a meal. It provides nourishment for the mind, body and soul. Mobile Meals delivers love, compassion and hope to those in need.

Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate

(formerly Greenville Health System Children’s Hospital)

Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate serves as the region’s source for pediatric care. Board-certified physicians in multiple pediatric subspecialties and experienced in advanced medicine treat more than 500,000 infants, children and adolescents each year.

Roper Mountain Science Center

Roper Mountain Science Center started as a unique partnership between public and private resources to provide local students with innovative opportunities to experience hands-on science enrichment activities.

The Cliffs Residents Outreach

The Cliffs Residents Outreach is a 501©(3) nonprofit corporation comprised of volunteers dedicated to enabling Upstate South Carolina children to succeed by focusing on literacy, nutrition and mentoring in Greenville, Pickens and Oconee counties.

In addition to the four featured charities, other local charities are supported through the Birdies for Charity program. The Birdies for Charity program is intended to support charitable organizations, services, operations and programs. It was established to support the continuing efforts of the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation to provide bonus dollars to participating charities. Donors can make a one-time flat donation or can pledge one cent or more per birdie.

“This year marks the 25th anniversary of production of BMW automobiles in Upstate South Carolina for the global market, so it is an exciting time for us, the tournament and its beneficiaries,” said Max Metcalf, secretary/treasurer, BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation. “The tournament is a great event for our community that allows us to give back to these four charities and others through the Birdie for Charity program. Additionally, tournament week is an ideal time to show off the Upstate and host potential clients and perspective customers, reward employees, and even be part of the excitement through sponsorship, playing and volunteer opportunities.”

With all the tents and other things they bring in, does the course this week resemble the course you are used to playing? Do they have to trick it up in anyway?

Hopefully a whole new setup coming soon!

It’s nice for them because some rough is blocked by the stands and tents. They generally don’t play the back tees from hole 2 either which makes the hole about 30 yards shorter. It will be firm and fast as long as the rain holds off. No tricks or differences that make it tougher though.

I am a Thornblade member as well. I would say the course plays easier for this tournament. In prime time, our course puts a premium on short game. The PGA softens the greens every year for this. The reasoning I have been given is they don't want the greens to be too crazy for the amateurs. They also state since the pros are playing multiple courses, they want to keep the speed more reasonable. This is coming from a member who has played in the tournament. Either way, it is a great tournament and does a lot for our community.

Just curious, but why are 95% of the WITB photos Titleist bags? Are any other staffers playing in the event or just a massive run on Titleist equipment?

Not sure why the argumentative tone, I was legitimately asking why so many Titleist bags. Do they dominate the Web.com tour, did you have special access to Titleist staffers, or something different? But instead, I asked a legitimate question and got a “be happy we took pictures” Don’t get it....

I will be caddying for a friend. I will give an update. The past couple years I saw a lot of Ping bags. I was over there yesterday and saw a little bit of everything. I will try to get you an update in the next day or two.

If I had thought it was a legitimate question I would have answered it differently.

It's his go-to response. Has been for years. Mutter any perceived slight, no matter how small, and Greg gets snippy. Ironic that people in his generation think the millennials are the snowflakes.

DTown has been on golf forums for years so for him to ask "Are any other staffers playing in the event or just a massive run on Titleist equipment?" was proof it wasn't a legit question. I didn't take it as preceived slight but rather someone sitting at his computer trying to be a smart@$$ and stir things up. So I answered him back in a smart@$$ way.

There is really no reason to continue this conversation, but since you decided to just assume (wrongly) some things I'll go ahead and respond. Perhaps my initial question was poorly worded, but I was genuinely interested on whether Titleist gave you some special access this week or you were focusing solely on the Titleist guys for a specific reason. OBVIOUSLY all brands will be represented, but it was strange that 95% of the WITB's this week were Titleist guys. No worries though, you're the one that looks like an curmudgeon yet again based on your snarky reply.

Keep up the good work Greg. Great pix especially on the Monday and Tuesday pictures. I see all sorts of different bags, even a Wilson FG tour set of irons. It is always cool to see pictures form the smaller or Web.com events. Always interesting to also see who is playing on the Web who was recently starring on the big tour. Olin Brown for example. He should be doing the Champions tour soon I would think.
