Wedge Swing Weight vs. Iron Swing Weight

Currently playing KBS C-Taper lite stiff flex +1/2" in my irons. Wedges are the stock DG S400 wedge shafts with a 1/2" extender.

Since the irons are rated at 110g and the wedges at around 130g, is the SW messing with my tempo? Lately, I feel like I have much more control with my wedges than short irons and I thought they should feel the same.

Should SW differ or be the same with wedges and irons?

Each club in the bag is really a fitting object of its own, but many prefer en certain slope of both total weight and resistance. If you think you lack shaft weight in the short end if the irons, you might try to add weight on the underside of the shaft about the middle of it (grip to head direction, use lead tape)

Start testing with 10 grams, and add 2 grams at the time up til 20 to the PW shaft and see what happens, and try to find the shaft weight that feels the best for that club, but try a few grams added head weight to.

I guess you know about the weight option AMT with ascending mass?

Shortest shaft is 130 grams (#9 and PW), then minus 3 grams pr shaft longer, so maybe your PW would have been better if it was closer, but not all the way up to 132 grams as uncut?

When we move to WEDGE using DG we already lost the extra 2 grams of shaft weight (vs S300), at the GW, so dont consider them to be 132 grams when you compare them to Iron, but as if they was 130 grams and with a bit higher head weight in Wedges.

My personal preference is heavier swingweight because I flip when I lose feeling of the clubface. I have much better tempo and sequence with heavier clubs. I'm a tall strong guy, so my hit instinct is strong from playing baseball as a kid/teen. Always preferred a heavier bat, so not surprised I like heavier clubs.

I used to think it a shaft stifness issue was causing inconsistent results until I really experimented with lead tape.

I had my last irons at D2 and found that D6 was perfect for me. Wedges were at D5 and I play them to E1.

I am only sharing my personal preference to tell you that 'you might be on to something'.

The only thing to keep in mind is that a heavier swingweight WILL require more out of your body in long practice sessions. If you've ever felt like you hit better shots late in a round when you start to get tired, it might be a good indicator your swing weight could be tweaked.

I'd at least test an S300 in an iron. You may find you're better off with that shaft all the through...or not
