Scratch AR1 Irons with no grind labeling

Hey guys, im looking at buying a set of used scratch ar1's, Im used to seeing them label the clubs d/s, d/d and so on. These dont have any designation. Just wondering if this was standard on older models. thanks!

The ground leading edge suggests a DS. DD would be flat all the way through from my experience.

Note the edge in this photo from a set of DS: (Edit - SS grind has a leading ground edge too. Gonna slider for sure, would have to ask FairwayFred for sure)

Those are DS grind for sure. Those were hand ground by Jeff McCoy in our Tour Dept in Oregon (at the time). Made for a PGA Tour player actually. One of the first 10 prototype zero offset sets we made as signified by the dots on the hosel. Circa 2006/7 I'd say.

Nope only the first run prototypes had that stamp on the hosel. Super rare only 10 sets. Ryan's irons were made a few years later and those specific clubs were made by Don White rather than Jeff McCoy. Ryan played irons made by both at different times.

Do you know where Ryan played this set?

I am not 100% sure but from memory I believe that set was early 2010 before he switched to a set of EZ1 for the Masters. He had quite a few different sets of irons that year.

2010 would seem correct from this post from 2010..!! I was hoping he’d taken them for a spin around Augusta.

Hey everyone - jumping in on this thread as I have a similar question. Found these AR1's about a year ago and absolutely love them. I've cleaned them up a bit but after researching I haven't found many sets with this number stamping and no info on the hosel. @FairwayFred any insight into these clubs? Would love to know more as I don't see these coming out of the bag for a while!

@Ctorrez - Have any hosel stamping shots? I've only seen those number stamps a few times, definitely appear to be hand-done based off the bounce of the stamp on the 7, probably Jeff would be my guess

That's what has always been interesting me to about this set - no hosel stamps on any clubs. I have a handful of other scratch clubs and they all have something on the hosel + the standard number stamping you find on most others. 

I've attached a few more photos for reference. 

@Ctorrez They're definitely good looking - appears to be a thicker topline than usual, but that could also just be the camera.

One thing to look for is the grinding around the face - Don has a ribbon (flat area blending two angles), whereas Jeff tends to have more smooth rounded edges. Don is top, Jeff is bottom, for reference. 

Love that old thread - thanks for sharing it. Looks like a more smooth edge to me - not as pronounced as your ribboned wedge. (This is the 7 iron for reference) 

Nice looking clubs...except for the ferrules need to be dressed down!  Sorry, my pet peeve...😗
