Buying a Sky Caddie SG5 from Golf Shop, Amazon or eBay

After an internal debate between the SG5, Sonocaddie V300 and the uPro (and getting a lot of great feedback from many of you), I've decided to get the Sky Caddie SG5 for my Christmas present. You've helped me through my initial decision process, now I have one other major concern --- where to buy it?

All the major golf outlets currently are selling the SG5 for $399.
Amazon has it (new unit) available for $354.
eBay has it (new unit) for $319 - $329. In addition, another eBay seller has the SG5 (new unit) and a Holiday accessory box for $375 (the accessory box has the Travel Case - normally $34.95, Car Charger - normally $29.95, Leather Case - normally $29.95 and LCD Guards - normally $9.95). The retail pricing on the items in the accessory box from Sky Golf totals $104.80. By the way, all the eBay pricing is for "Buy it Now", not an auction.

At first glance, this would seem to be a "no brainer", however, I do have some concerns. The conerns are mostly concerning warranty issues.

I read the product warranty on the Sky Golf website, and they will cover the unit for 90 days. The website says that the owner of the unit must contact Sky Golf (or Sky Hawks) for all warranty issues. My first assumption is that it doesn't matter where you bought the unit, you still contact Sky Golf for any warranty issue. This would seem to indicate that the eBay unit would move to the top of the list on where to buy, which is why I'm posting this message.

1. Have any of you purchased your SG5 from either Amazon or eBay? Any horror stories regarding warranty because of where you purchased the unit?
2. I'm assuming that there is only one version of the SG5 out there, and everyone selling an SG5 is selling the same vertion. Is that a good assumption? I certainly would not want to buy a Version 0 from eBay when a Version 1 is being sold at Golf Galaxy, regardless of price. If all SG5 units are the same version, then it merely becomes a "price" issue, and the goal is, obviously, to buy it at the cheapest price you can find.
3. Any other concerns on buying a product like this from either Amazon or eBay?

I bought one off ebay and had no problems whatsoever also if you use the Microsoft cashback you will save almost $100 off the $375 one. Definitely a steal!!

They come with the 90 day warranty, but I opted to upgrade to the one year warranty for $19.99. You have to choose that option within thirty days of registering your unit. It ends up giving you thirteen months of warranty and I figured most problems would surface within that period.

 

Go for the ebay unit with all the extra stuff. They sell in stores for $459.99.

GPPGOLF is having a sale this weekend. SG5 for 297.49 and the acc bundle for 69.99 plus about 5 dollars for shipping.

I bought the SG5 with the Holiday accessory pack from a store on e-Bay this morning; they had it at $369.99 with free shipping. I used the Microsoft Live "Cashback" search option for 30% rebate and saved $111... it was deposited immediately into my PayPal account. A brand new SG5 plus all the fun accessories for $258.99 is very hard to beat!!!!

Not a big internet shopper since I live in Canada and many places won't ship or you pay a big borkerage fee but what is this Microsoft cashback?

I have sold the Sky Caddie Brand for over 3 years. Getting one from eBay or amazon is a way for a dealer to skirt the system & sell for less than the manufacture requires. Sky Caddie shuts down about 2-3 accounts per week from dealers that don't follow price policy. Long story short The dealer if still a dealer won't be for long. If you purchase from a place like this make sure you get a sales receipt not a paypal paid slip in the rare case you need proof of purchase. I always give golfwrx members a discount on all GPS or Laser units of 10%

Prices are falling fast. Just bought a Skycaddie SG 5 from a course I play on. Including 6% tax, I paid $309. :D
