Tour Burner Irons VS. Burner 09 Irons

How do they compare
I got a brand new set of TM Tour Burners for Christmas most of the irons still have plastic on the heads so before I game these irons I would like to know if the 09 Burner irons are compared to the Tour Burners. If the 09 irons are that much better I think I might just return my Tour Burners and pick up a set of 09 Burners.

I do think there's a big difference here. I don't know if any one set is "better" than the other, but from an engineering standpoint, they seem a good bit different.

I, for one, LOVE the Tour Burner irons. I doubt I'll even hit the 09 Burner. I guess to each his own, but though the marketing of the 09 Burner as all individually designed irons seems a bit ingenious, I see it the other way--almost like hitting a combo set rather than a set that just flows from one iron to the next. I could be wrong, but just my opinion.

I honestly hated the tour burners. However, the 09 burners I could play. The sole is nice, they topline looks good and they are even more forgiving than the tour burners.

Does anyone have the specs for both of these? They aren't on the TM site thank you

For some reason when ya go up to Irons, and go to Burner, it says the set is dead, never really worked........

Even if ya start from scratch at the TM site.......

Weird, but other irons have all kinds of info....except the Stock Stiff shafts on the TB (105g- not listed)

I've had the Tour Burners in the bag since early Summer last year and I got one of the demo 09 Burner 6 irons from Taylormade to try so I've been able to hit both side by side. I may be biased as I love my Tour Burners but I really couldn't find anything about the new Burners that left me wanting to get rid of my set for the new one. To me the 2 sets seemed night and day different with the Tour Burners still being more of a players iron and the '09 Burners being more game improvment. I have the stock shafts in my Tour Burners and I get a high but flat ballflight. With the '09 Burners I got nothing but balloon balls from the 85 gram shaft. I didn't see the huge distance gains some are reporting either, both my TB 6 iron and the '09 Burner were about the same. The head on the '09 Burners is larger so I imagine it's a more forgiving club but then again the TB's are a very forgiving iron in their own right and I'm not sure how much that aspect of the new sticks might benefit me. As far as the soles go, I like the soles on both and both work well for me so there's not any difference for me between the two.

I've always been a big TM fan but I'm not sold that the new Burners are anything special. They look nice with the smoked chrome finish and I like the cavity medallion better but they didn't do anything for me that my TB's don't already do. If I were buying new irons today I'd go for the Tour Burners and put the extra $300 in my pocket or go and buy a new driver and call it a day. For me the TB's are staying in the bag.

These are very interesting comparison sets. The Tour Burner's are more of a traditional player's cavity back, medium head size, medium top line, medium (to narrow) sole. A very nice set, comparable, in fact almost identical, to Ping I5's (my current set - I did a comparison last year, and both statistically and in terms of performance the sets were very similar).

The 2009 Burner's are more of a morph set: SGI longer irons with large cavity, large offset, largish sole; medium irons with medium characteristics, and shorter irons with smaller head size, relatively small offset, narrow(er) soles. Let's face it: many players have been creating these sets for years - ordering the GI or SGI irons of a given manufacturer in the longer irons and then transitioning to the "player's" irons in the shorter scoring irons. The Burner's just do that in a single set. If it wasn't for the super strong lofts, I think there would be a cleaner buzz for the set; with the lofts the discussion usually denigrates into "strong lofts are ridiculous".

I am no expert on either stick. I traded my G10s from last year for AP2s to get back to a profile I am more familiar with and really liked the 2s so far. Find them far better for my swing and surprizingly forgiving. Being a cluboholic I like having a couple sets around for either ocassional practice away from my club were my main sticks are stored or simply to shake things up. I have demoed the 09 Burners six times now and try as I may I can,t see the excitement from many here. I just demoed the Tour Burners for the first time and found them far more forgiving and playable then the 09 Burners. I think I have trouble with the longer 09 Burners length. I may demo Tour Burners again today to use as second set or if and when I hit those "playing like crap" periods. After playing 30+ years and at least 20 sets of irons has lead me to the fact that certain irons perform better for some then others and as much as we try and classify irons it is truly a "to each his own" senerio.
