well, considering they didn't test out titleist or mizuno, or alot of other quality brands, I don't think this test is that accurate. Plus, shafts make a big difference, but I guess thats why you get fitted for optimum distance. IMHO, its probably a little favoring the ignite especially since its the one tiger uses...

Why 90 mph?

Anyhow, no dispespect to Golfworld but I say bogus. Pretty sure it is a well documented fact testing showed the Comp has the highest ball speed followed by the G2.

Where did you find those results? I'm interested to read where an independent test has shown Cleveland and Ping to be the fastest.

I agree that it does seem to be the consensus, but the consensus is not always accurate. :D

Re: the results...why wouldn't you believe it? I don't think Golf World would fake results, they have no reason to. Besides, it was one day, with one set of parameters...any one of those drivers could have come up aces for one test.

At least they used real balls, that's a step in the right direction. :cheesy:

I believe they came up with those numbers - AND I believe that the numbers don't really prove anything...2 things, equally true. :vava:

Titleist TSR3 9.25* Ventus Black TR 6x

Titleist TSR2+ 13* Speeder 757 x

Callaway Rogue ST LS 18* LIN-Q M40X Blue

Callaway Apex 24 MB 6 to 11 iron, MMT 105 TX

Callaway Jaws 54/58/64 KBS 130

It is a horribly designed research project that applies to a sliver of a fraction of golfers. If your swing with (pick a head/shaft/flex/loft) from the the study results in a 90 mph SS, with identical launch angle, face angle and spin rate that they got, then by all means use these results as your fitting tool. If not then these numbers are meaningless. Two guys at 90 MPH can have wildly different launch angles and spin rates. If a given driver set up fits one it will not under any circumstances fit the other.

Get fitted on a LM with someone who knows there stuff.

The study done was fine but the conclusions drawn or implied are a big leap.

that is a bogus test imo because i did alot of testing a few months ago and the comp was the longest driver on the market.

plus there is alot of veriables with the shaft because some of the stock shafts mite not be good for a 90mph swing speed.

if you where looking for a new driver i wouldnt even look at this info.

just my $0.02

Yeah. They didnt even try the Titleists and some other reputable drivers. Bogus

Personally, I would like to see how the KZG Gemini stacks up. I guess they only test clubs that buy advertising space.

I believe that 90mph would have been chosen because it is pretty closed to the average speed for adult male golfers and was what these particular spec drivers were made for. The drivers were tested with their standard shafts because this is how 99% of them are sold and kept. Only about 1% of golfers even test different shafts.

I am guessing that Titleist weren't represented because they wouldn't supply a driver for the test. When these tests are done a request is usually made to all of the "name brand" manufacturers. Some, like Titleist have a policy that they don't supply drivers to these kind of comparison tests because the results are only ever favourable to the one that comes out on top.

We are in the process of putting together a test ourselves for another web site and Titleist have already refused to supply a test unit for the comparison.
