tour preferred vs r9 vs r9tp

i currently play the taylormade tour preferred irons with nippon n.s pro 950gh shafts. My swing speed with a driver is a little of 100 mph and i carry a 2 handicap.

Β

i see taylormade is introducing new irons, the r9 and r9tp with kbs shafts. has anyone compared these to the tour preferred? are the r9's bigger, have a bigger sole, difference in offset, degree of forgiveness? if the new irons feel the same but are more forgiving, i may try them. any insight would be appreciated.

if ur a 2 handicap definitly dont go with the r9 and get r9tp..r9 are more of a higher handicap club with not as much workability or feel..and are full cavity backs..i am loving the r9tp irons ..AWESOME feel/workability and GREAT distance.. the 3 4 and 5 iron hav a larger cavity back and they are easy to hit up in the air..great irons..feels so good when u hit em pure..tho i dont hav the kbs tour shafts in them

I game the Tour Preffereds w/KBS Tours. I have tried side by side and I do prefer the Tour Preferreds. Feel alone is close but I will say the Tour Preferreds feel better. as far as forgiving, I would also say the Tour Preferreds may be a touch more forgiving, due to its weight distributing to the perimiter of the club. The R9TP seems to be a very similar design to the R7TP, almost identical! I know many Tour Pros did say they switched from the R7TP to the Tour Preferreds due to that very reason, more firgiveness but still very workable.

If you are asking my opinion, id say hands down, switching to the R9TP if you game Tour Preferreds, bad idea... feel alone I know Tour Preferreds feel better to me. Several other people I play with also said the same thing...R9TP did not feel nearly as nice as Tour Preferreds.

Also, for you guys comparing your Tour Preferreds with DGS300, haha try the Tour Preferreds with KBS's!!!

With us both being 2 HDCPS, we may have the same requirements in clubs.

The regular R9 is crap. Everyone and their mother knows that.
The R9 TP however, is a great club. While not as small as I would like, it's a great option if you need a hint of forgiveness.
The R9 TP is a very clunky club to me and a poor performing one. I don't like it. But that is indeed just my opinion. I know some scratch golfers that love it. You like it, get it. It's a good club. Just not for me.

TM TP. My favorite TM iron besides the MB Smoke.
Lower height, better workability, and IMO, fantastic iron. Solid feel, good distance.

I was fitted for three shafts.
Best one for me is DGS300
Project X is next
and then KBS is last.
KBS is nice, great shaft.
But the DGS300 felt better, had better weight, and performed better for me.
Glad you like your KBS shafts. They're a great shaft.
ok basically the r9 is a GI iron so i cant see you being interested in that

the r9tp has a bigger topline, offset and sole width but i reckon it has more forgiveness. the r9 tps are not as workable as the tour preffered and they look like a GI iron not a players iron
Not as workable?! Tour Preferred looks like a GI iron?! If you have game, you should be able to work ANY iron! Tell that to Kenny Perry or Roco Mediate, both playing shovels!

Here's what I'm doing. I really like the R9 TP's, but didn't want to spend that much on a set of irons. I hit them side by side on the range and in a simulator and for me they were pretty similar. I actually wasn't sure I liked the KBS shafts. So, I bought a set of Tour Preferred off ebay for like $300 with PX shafts. That said, sometime in late 2010, I'm sure I will end up with a set of r9 tp's once the price comes down below $500.

Terrible example, as both have 1 shot in their arsenal. They want the ball to do the same thing every time, and have no interest in deviating. A "fade" for these guys, is basically a straight shot that falls to the left.

That said, some people prefer that. I've played both shovels and blades, and am essentially trying to find the least offset shovels I can get for my new gamers...

My bad. I typed that while eating.
To me, the R9 TP does perform well, well enough for me to call it great. However, it's clunky in the sense that it's too big in the head for me to consider bagging. And for me, the R9 TP was harder to hit than the TM TP. probably because my mind always tells me that smaller irons are easier to hit

So far, the R9 TP's are not as good for my game as the Tour Preferreds. Very nice, but the Tour Preferreds are more blade like in all respects which is why I bought them.

Tour Preferreds have better feel and ballflight hands down. And they're plenty forgiving in my opinion.
