Mizuno mp52 vs. mx300

buying new irons
I'm trying to decide on a new set of irons. I want forged irons that offer forgiveness but also give feedback, with the possibility of working the ball in the future. I like a thin topline, don't like the clunky look. I want something that I can play now, but also something that I will still enjoy as I get better. I have been playing for only 2 years but am continually improving. I currently shoot in the high 80's low 90's, but foresee myself shooting low to mid 80's in the upcoming year. Has anyone hit both of these? What do you think?

I'd say go with the mx300s. They are not too clunky, provide good foregiveness on mishits, and feel pretty good. The MP52s are really nice sticks, but they are not as foregiving and a bit shorter. (don't know if there is a loft difference). You may wish you had the MP 52s (or the MP 68s for that matter) when you are staring at your clubs at home, but you will be happy with the MX300s on those days whent the swing is a bit off (which is more often than we would like).

I have hit both and I settled on the MX-300. They feel similiar but the misses on the MP52 are more penal distance-wise. Either way they are both nice. I shoot in mid-low 80's.

from the sounds of your game you could play either. I tested both and went with the 52's as I liked the feel better. At your HC you may be happier with the 300s for the next couple of years. I did lose 5 yards with my 52's but gained in accuracy. I have heard you don't lose any distance with the 300s. Good luck to you.

I think the stock shafts will play a difference. I have a set of 5-PW MP52s on the way with good old DG S300s. thoes shafts will launch lower then then the lighter shaft stock in the 300s...and the MPs will be more std. lofts off a 47* PW where the 300s I think are 2* stronger, so yes they will go farther. one more thing...the 52s have the better grooves and I think the 300s now have the new modified grooves.
I say get the best of both worlds and play a combo set. I'm thinking about adding a MX300 4 iron to the set of 52's because it should be easier to hit and launch higher.

I like both sets but settled on the MP52. Much better feel, better control, cleaner look too. The MP52 is quite forgiving for a cavity back. You can never go wrong with either sets, just make sure you have the shafts that fits you well.
If u haven't already bought the clubs and you're willing to practice getting ur swing down I would skip forward to the mp58's... there isn't that much of a difference between them and the 52's plus u won't be swinging bricks around.

Forgiveness if overrated
If forgiveness is overrated, why doesn't your bag include the 3, 4, and 5 irons in the MP68's?

I think forgiveness is an exponential function. If you're around scratch you won't see much difference, but give someone who shoots 100 a blade and a GI iron, especially in the longer irons, and I'll think you'll see a huge difference. This, of course, is a general rule and doesn't apply to everyone equally.

There are a lot of factors when you compare the two irons. One is the stock shaft, they are different and will play different. The second is the sole, you get more sole and bounce with the MX300 that is some of the built in game improvement. So you will hit the ball higher and may not like the ball flight. Also, if you hit down on the ball, you may not like that much sole, and the turf interaction you are getting. That is one of the main reasons I switched from MX23 to my mp32. At first it took a little getting used to, but I am more accurate now. Good luck. If you have any more questions feel free to pm me.

Really? I'll respectfully disagree. I take it you're bagging a 1 and 2 iron?
