I thought that the 2 dots were for weight sorting? Mine has two dots on one side but is 3° upright (blue "R.."). I was told that color denoted lie and two dots on one side or the other meant a lighter or heavier head - so longer or shorter clubs could have normal swing weights. (mine is +1/2")

I have one coming to me in the mail with tour issue x100. Can't wait!!
The thing is I do not know much about them and can't seem to find info on these heads. So anyone who might have tried them or have some info on these heads, please enlightened me.
thanks,

Red heads are heavy. Mine are 4 grams heavy and the feel is awesome. You are in for a treat with these. The additional weight adds to the solid feel you will experience. More mass behind the sweetspot. Endo forged in Japan also. Some of the best heads money can buy.

No, that is incorrect. Red denotes 2 degrees flat as previously stated

Nope. Red is heavy.

White = over standard heads light weight
Black = standard heads (D1 w/ no assistance)
Red = Heavy heads (D3 w/ no assistance)

one dot on each side are standard tour issue
2 dots on each side are retail with more bounce

All the colors are for is to tell what the weight is. Dot do no mean lie or loft on these series of Callaway irons.

Truth.

--------------
Exception:

New or old Callway X-Forged 2's or callway blades with V grooves all have "H" for heavy weight. The new "V" groove blades have "H" for heavy heads.

New ones dont have color changes. New "V" blades have one dot on each side of the R.

Wow, never knew that, I stand corrected. What signifies the lie on the new callys then?

I know for absolute certain that on old irons (x18s, xtours), the color signified the lie angle. 100% sure

White line on the upper groove is upright and a red line on the upper groove is flat. That's always the way I understood it.

white is 2 upright and red is 2 flat yes, but theyre are other colors for other degrees, i know green and blue are also ones. I believe yellow is as well.

True, point being that's where the lie angle indicator is. That's all I was really getting at.

FWIW, my new lefty X-Prototype's (which were built by Callaway, and arrived last week) have the **R** painted green. I play them 1up.

I had a set last year that was the same. I will check on the green.

so if you go to callaway golf preowned site and pick the 1 degree flat(gold) 2 degree flat(red)..and so forth...they are lying? Why would callaway themselves lie to the public ;)

The facts I stated are for X-proto and x forged II only. All the other iron brands have color and dot indicators that tell you lie angles.

As I understand it (could be wrong of course), the whole point of the "heavy heads" is to make it easier for the club builder to achieve D2 or D3 for clubs shorter than standard. Conversely, the "light heads" are to keep the swing weights down (or from getting too excessive) for clubs longer than standard.

I anticipate that neither "heavy" nor "light" heads are available as lefty... only standard weight.

easyyy, (out of curiosity) do you know if there's a tangible/actual difference between *R* and **R** heads?

Titleist.

wow! thanks guys for all the insight. I saw a set on ebay and the seller said these were heavier heads so the van can get the swingwieght required by the pros.
then again i read that earnie's set had no off-set and are of thr red R variety.
i don't know what to believe......but thanks again for all the inputs.

Easyyy, with comments like "The additional weight adds to the solid feel you will experience. More mass behind the sweetspot. Endo forged in Japan also. Some of the best heads money can buy." i am just drooling...... cheers for that!

i think the dots mean bounce. .r. means less bounce than ..r..
[/quote]

You are correct! The 4 dots mean more bounce and are the TA version. 2 dots are standard. Mine are quad dot gold...which is 1 degree flat with more bounce...at least according to Callaway Golf Corp ;)

I will check tomorrow. I am also curious what the green heads are for the protos and the x forged II.

i ordered an X Proto PW for my set. I play 3* flat and the paintfill on the letters and dots was gold. hope this helps

I did the same thing and got navy blue in the "R.." (the same color as my 07 X-forged and the same lie - 3° upright)

Can you also check what 2 dots on only one side are for as well as whether blue "R" means 3° upright on a X-Proto?

Thanks!

Here's another one to throw in the mix. I have a set of x forged 09's that are .R. and these were measured as standard.

When I bought them the shop also had a set with ..R on them and these were measured by the shop owner (with me watching) to be 2 degrees upright.

These were both lefty sets.

Sorry I can't help with the colour thing. All the ones I saw were black.

Ok, I have another change. This is from callaway. Since original X Forged and X Tour have we had a different bounced version.  In the Forged products they use the dot codes as primary as we get multiple versions from Endo to build sets but as we run low and bend to order, they move to the color codes if needed.

**R  = 3UP and 2UP
*R = 1UP
*R* = Standard
R* = 1FL
R**  = 2FL and 3FL

Color codes are as follows:
1UP = Green
2UP = White
3UP = Blue
STD = Black
1FL = Gold
2FL = Red
3FL = Yellow
