Pro Platinum are not as soft as the Red X. Studio Design, early Gun Blue, Oil Cans or the Circa series would be closer to the feel of the Red X. Stick with the Studio, early OTRs (Gun Blue or Oil Can) or Circas.

I would say that the Platinum is softer than the Studio Stainless without the insert. It's a toss up between the Platinum and the SS with insert. As others have stated, the Gun Blue, Oil Can, and Circas are the softest....unless you go with GSS

If your looking for a putter, there are internet auction sites that offer OTR putters at relatively reasonable prices. Studio Design putters are being had between $125 and $200 depending on condition. There are also many Newport and Newport 2 putters to be had.

Gss is 303 and there is no way its softer than Carbon. ProPlatinum is coated over Carbon. For me, the 303 will definetly give a higher "click" than a proplatinum. Its very subjective to every person. Alot of people were questioning the GSS "insert" when it first came out cause it seems redundant. If you have a "My Girl" mallet and comapare it to a Red X, there is definetly a different feel to them.

Keep in mind that the sound plays a huge part in how our mind works in thinking one is softer than the other. To me, any insert is going to sound/feel softer than a pp or stainless, due to the fact both of those click when you hit them, and the inserts thud...IMO

Which is softer Pro Plat or GSS (not the insert). And where can you find a GSS?

The material hardness of 303 Studio Stainless and 303 GSS is probably identical. GSS, non-insert, is reserved for Tour putters and start at around 3k.

For me, pro plat feels softer than SSS/GSS.

Sound slots can change the sound and can make SSS feel softer. The Bettinardi 3 slot really softens the feel of Stainless putter. It felt much softer than a Cameron Studio Beach with the slot in the face.

yea for sure the pro platinum is alot softer than the studio stainless line, like Gxgolfer said, there is no way stainless steel is softer than carbon, and with the finish, it still gives a nice click.

yeah the PP is softer than the studio stainless.. but i liked my SS better..

like my futura phantom mallet best of all ... perhaps the black color has something to do with it..
