Good Tournaments for Junior

Recommended Posts

Age 14 (15 in May) looking for good tournaments
Hello everyone,

I am new to the Golfwrx board, as you can see this is my first post. I am Junior Golfer, aged 14, turning 15 in May. I am currently a 7 handicap, hopign to get that down this year. My low tournament round is 73, but mostly shoot in the low 80's-high 70's. I live in Connecticut and have played tournaments on the Met PGA Junior tour the past 3 years. I am, however, looking to play some bigger tournaments, preferably in the northeast area. I am planning on joining the AJGA this year, but was also wondering what other tournament organizations/ tournaments juniors play in, as this board seems to have a lot of juniors, and a bunch of very good ones. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the responses guys...I signed up for the AJGA and I am hoping to play in the Medicus Preseason Junior at Rochester, as it seems you don't need any prior exemptions for this (please clarify if I'm wrong). I also plan to sign up for the U.S. Challenge Cup and will try and play a few of those tournaments. A buddy of mine played in a lot of those last year and also suggested them. Thanks...

I am going to play in that Preseason as well. Just a word of advice, make sure you are at your computer screen at 3:00 on the day that the application is released. The Preseason, aswell as the qualifiers are all on a first come first serve basis. They are a great opportunity to get the feel of the AJGA, as well as the chance to get credit towards your PBE early in the season. Best of luck this year! ;)

Cool to know...hopefully I'll get in and we'll meet...thanks also for clarifying. I had been told by someone else I know on the AJGA that tournaments fill up quickly. So the earliest time you can enter is on 3:00 P.M. that day, so in this case March 20th?

Actually there has been a change in qualifer entrance. It is no longer all first come first serve basis. Go to the site and read about it.

I'm also going to play the Preseason even at Rochester. Like clevelandballer said, the Preseasons fill up very quickly so make sure you are ready and at the computer as soon as the application comes out. Hopefully I get to meet you guys there.

Let's just hope the snow melts in time....I couldn't get a hold of anyone at the course, but they are right in that area that got hit pretty hard with snow this winter. The website didn't have a much about the course, so we shall see, the AJGA wouldn't host an event there if it wasn't a good track.

Here is the new qualifier guidelines for 2007:

The first 50 percent of the field will be filled as follows:

Step 1: Rising seniors (2008 grads) from the state of the qualifier who have yet to earn entry into a tournament or qualifier during the current season

Step 2: Rising seniors (2008 grads) from a bordering state of the qualifier who have yet to earn entry into a tournament or qualifier during the current season

Step 3: All other rising seniors (2008 grads) who have yet to earn entry into a tournament or qualifier during the current season

Step 4: All other rising seniors

The next 40 percent of the field will be filled as follows:

Step 5: Non rising seniors from the state or bordering state of the qualifier who have yet to earn entry into a tournament or qualifier during the current season

Step 6: All other non rising seniors who have yet to earn entry into a tournament or qualifier during the current season

Step 7: All other non rising seniors

The final 10 percent of the field, as well as the alternate list, will be filled as follows:

Step 8: Random draw

Ties at any step will be broken by:

1) Performance Based Entry status

2) Location

a. Players from the state of the Qualifier

b. Players from a bordering state of the Qualifier

3) Random draw
