hogans secret

Recommended Posts

i'm pretty sure there's no ONE thing. and i'm pretty sure if he did find the ONE thing it was the ONE thing that worked for HIM.

how can you replicate the weight he was feeling in his hands? at every point in the swing? how much presure he was feeling on his feet at different points in the swings?

how different his muscles were developed compared to yours?

I'm thinking he tried every movement known to man, and then finally found something and then cut away everything else.

The golf swing can be dissected club head ascribed postions lines drawn but in the end it's a FEELING.

its been said a million times before but i'll say it again too i think his secret was the amount of work he put into the swing.

No no no no........!!!
there is a secret, there is, there is.
there has to be, there must be, without it all life loses meaning.
I know there is, I know, I really do.
Been waiting here a long time for someone to find it, see it, hear it, feel it or just smell it.
I have a nauseous feeling that someone has found it and won't tell.
Losing sleep thinking who it might be and why why why won't they tell.

The dead horse is being beaten to a pulp. But just to chime in......he had a secret that worked for him, doesn't mean it will work for anyone else.

Guys he said the secret is in the dirt. Could it be that he was referring to performance enhancing mushrooms?
No, NO NO, not true! Hogan was very anti-hippie. He was however abducted by aliens, not sure what they told him but rumor has it, it was circa 1948.

He's too sincere in the interview where he discusses it for it not to be true. We have to remember, he was very good and competitive right up to this point where he had his epiphany. I believe he had everything about his swing figured out save for the occasional hook that crept in at the wrong time. When he did finally get his mind around it, it was simply a matter of time for him to perfect it on the range.
Couple a unique grip or way to set the club on plane coming down with what he already knew and you get...THE HAWK!

By the way, has anyone else on here heard about him going back and studying the grips and lessons from earlier Scottish teachers for insight?

I re-read that part in Dodson's book the other day and he says Hogan revisited some older Scottish teachings about pronation and that Hogan thought the idea was so old it was new again. Says he then combined that with the lessons he got from Picard (the weaker left hand grip). We need to put our heads together and find those old Scottish teachings!
Time magazine "secret" article I believe.

Weak grip,
Rotate the left arm going back
cup the left wrist

That is the secret as he describes it.

I have tried it, you definitely wont hook it, in fact I slice the snot out of it.

I actually use the secret on occasion if I need to hit a big slice around a tree or something.

I didn't know Jean Luc played golf but he is a star fleet captain so I guess he is authorised to be told highly classified secrets.

I know what the secret was. Are you ready for it? He moved his right hand grip... simple as that. He didn't change the left hand at all and everything else fell into place. His swing shortened over the years but it never changed that much. The cup in the wrist at the top was a result of weakening the right hand, but the left hand was still neutral to strong.

Oh Tembolo you are a bad man! As it happens i am off to the Land of Smiles in 4 weeks time. But the trouble you got me into last time cannot be repeated. Like a lamb to the slaughter i was led by you to the cliff edge and and you said jump while you turned around and strolled home. That said, as we all know there is nothing better in golf than a pretty girl practicing in high heels.
And nothing more swing-disturbing than a young gay male caddy who knows absolutely NOTHING about golf, but smiles at you and insists on touching you in the golf cart, as happened last time. In the end it was so ridiculous i did actually give him a small tip.
