Low launch ball with decent spin around greens?

Picked up some G10 irons and they are high launch/low spin.
I hit a high ball to begin with, play DG S300 shafts to compensate the high ball flight. I carry my 7 iron 165-170. Driver SS around 105, but I demoed some G10 irons the other day in a regular flex shaft and was astonished how much the offset and lighter flex shaft helped my accuracy. I slowed my swing down a bit and was doing a "9 to 3" half swing and hitting it just as far, but with a lot more accuracy. So I bought them. Now I'm trying to find a ball that will counter act the high launch/low spin characteristics of the G10 irons the best I can. So that would be a low launch/high spin ball. Is it even possible for a ball to be low launch/high spin? I know a proper impact delofting positon will do more for me, I'm working on it. The irons will be arriving from Ping on Friday and I have an Amateur Tour event on Saturday that I would like to use them in, so I won't have the luxury of testing anything extensively. Maybe 9 holes late on Friday.

These G10's are both high launch and low spin irons and I don't know what ball to use. They were throwing the ball up there quite high with range balls. Worried that the e5+ I normally use will create an even higher launch. I just don't want it to get any higher of a launch, but don't want to lose the spin around the greens. I imagine that swinging slower will reduce spin, so on one hand I think I might be ok with the e5+.

Any suggestions? My searching on this site has produced very little, only a Nike PDS is a possiblity. At least I think that is what the name of it was.

Thanks for the help.

Taylormade TP Red LDP (2008 ball) should go a little lower than most with decent spin.

Those seem like they would work, but WOW $40 bucks for the 08 TP Red. Yikes! I lose too many balls per round to spending that kind of coin on balls.

Call me cheap, but I don't have the game nor do I care to spend my future retirement plans on balls that will disappear faster than Osama bin Laden.

Thanks for the recommendation though, it is appreciated.

Anything in the $25 and under range?

In order to get a lower ball flight with some spin you are going to look into spending $40 a dozen on some balls in my opinion. The only balls that are in that price range that spin a little are the Top Flite D2 feels while maintaing distance but don't get you a low flight. Get some lessons not some new balls.

I take lessons every two weeks, which is why I can't spend $40 on golf balls. Even if I could, I wouldn't b/c I go through 6 balls a round.

I don't need to maintain distance. I don't mind hitting a club shorter if I can get the ball flight down and still have adequate spin around the greens with a simple ball change.

Is the Top Flite Gamer considered to be a high or low trajectory ball?

Finding ball trajectory info is very hard on the web. I've been googling and searching for 3 hours. Even the ball company sites are vague.

I am confused on how the G10 irons are high launch and low spin? What characteristic of the G10 iron head creating low spin?

Direct from the Ping website:

"The center of gravity is positioned away from the face and low in the club head to promote higher launching, lower spinning shots. By creating a new shape for the Custom Tuning Port (CTP), PING engineers stabilized the hitting area to produce consistent ball velocity across the entire club face. An elastomer CTP insert helps control vibration for a solid feel."

Combine that with the AWT shafts and my natural high ball flight and you have the need to find a ball that can counter act that. If it can be done. I saw the high ball flight myself on the range, but I haven't played a round with them yet. They are on the way from Ping. I'm just looking to see if there is a ball out there that can help, other than a $40 ball that is. I'll just bring some e5+, e6+, D2 Feel, and some Gamers with me. See what happens.

I would use golfballselector.com, but I have no data on my swing speed or spin rate off my irons. Plus I find it to be very vague info anyway.

Don't know about i10's. They felt horrible to me when I demoed them earlier this spring before I bought the Titleist 695CB's.

The real question that apparently has never been asked before on the ENTIRE internet is what trajectory is the TF Gamer considered to be? High, Mid, or Low? Top Flite's website is worthless.

Where are all the ball know it all's? Out on vacation with the kids I guess.

Have you thought about Lostgolfballs.com, I think they have the 08 TP Reds at $26.95 for the 1 hit wonders.

With the shipping added in, I'm back to being close to $40. The spending madness with golf has to stop somewhere, and with me, it stops at the ball. I play quite a bit, 3 rounds a week, plus I lose a bunch of balls, so I spend a bunch on balls. That is why I have to draw the line on expensive balls.

You said you play the E5+ right?

Isn't the E6+ then the logical choice? I use this ball, it's great off the tee, as straight as anything you're going to hit, and it has enough spin around the greens. It won't suck back on you, but it will stop dead if you need it to.

Pretty sure you can't find a low-launch/highspin combination in a ball, as the extra spin is what gives the ball the launch isn't it?

Regardless, try the E6+. It spins way less then the E5+ but does not feel much firmer, if at all

Yeah, the e6+ is the first ball I'm going to try. I used it with my Mizuno's. I just got addicted to the e5+ spin with my wedges around the greens and was hoping to find something close to it for the wedges, but wouldn't be 300ft high with my irons and driver. Will be nice to pound the driver again with the e6+. That ball is long for me. I was just suffering off the tee with the e5+, but my short game was awesome with it.

My plan is to try and just use the high ball flight of the G10 irons to hold the greens and learn how to let my pitches roll out instead of 1 hop and stop. Sucks b/c my short has never been better. Hopefully I can get used to it quickly. I have an Amateur Tour event Saturday with a 7:30 tee time. I won't even be able to get a decent range session in.

It would be cool to be able to use whatever ball you wanted with each shot. LOL! Like the old men do at my club.

Your plan is a good plan. The extra height you'll get coming in with the G10s will make it easier to stop the ball when you need to, so you won't need as much spin. Once you get accustomed to the amount of roll-out on chips with the E6+, you'll be right.

On another note, I'm not sure if you have the U wedge in the G10, but I was really surprised with how quickly I could get my I10 U wedge to pull up on chips and short pitches. Considering it's 50 degrees, I am able to get this to stop quicker than my old Bridgestone WCD wedge, and that was 52 degrees.

Yeah, I got the U-wedge. Excited about that b/c hopefully for the first time I will have consistent yardage gaps from PW through LW.

I would play a pink womens ball if it worked for me. I don't care, just so it isn't $45 a dozen. Maybe I could see them better and wouldn't lose so many of them. LOL

Hopefully the irons will arrive in time for some experimenting on Friday evening. Like to see how far they go with the e6+ before I bomb one over the 1st green and into the water. I know with the Titelist 695CB's I was hitting it about 12 yds further than the e5+.

e6+ was just fine today. My clubs actually arrived at 1pm. So I was able to get in a full practice round. Hardly any spin with the short irons, but the greens were very soft from all the rain we have been getting. Overall, it wasn't really that big of a deal. Had no issues letting the ball roll out on pitches. My driving improved a ton with the less spin ball. It was fun. I hit 12/14 fairways, 11 of them with the driver. Best driving day in months. G10's were good. Real high ball flight though, but manageable. No balloning at all.

Thanks for ya'll help.
