PXG and Vertical Golf

Yeah so I didn't really do any research. I couldn't think of a PXG golfer off the top of my head that had won. That's why I said I could be way off base here. I excluded Lydia Ko because she was the only person I knew who won with them and was just thinking of the men's tours. Not a sexism thing, just limiting it to the men's. Sorry gents

I was surprised how many PGA tour players play PXG, since the irons are hollow and not the type of club most male tour players use (except for very long irons).

PXG said they are now concentrating on signing up more LPGA players, because those are the type of clubs that most women use (and that the vast majority of amateurs would like to use).

As noted above by Yarra, Ko only recently switched to PXG and has not won with them yet. Christie Kerr has won at least one tournament with the PXG irons (Lotte) and maybe another tournament also before that. The Kerr thing is a little complicated because at one time she was listed as a PXG staffer on their website, but was not a staffer when she won the Lotte, supposedly because she played some other clubs right before the Lotte. Kerr finished 2nd last week with the PXG irons again, but still not sponsored by PXG.

If Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, etc all switched to PXG, you'd have a Major Championship pretty soon. It's not the clubs. It will never be the clubs. It's the player, and it will always be the player. These guys can play with anything. PXG is not better, or worse, than any other club when in the hands of your best tour pros.

Dial the ball back!!!

Wait. Wrong thread...

Well, that's the thing. I do not believe that golf companies should think like car companies. Resale value is not on their priority list because it is still considered sports equipment. Do people buy used basketball, tennis racquet, baseball bat, swimming goggles, etc?

If you find time and do any research on PXG actual finance, (not Bob Parson's pockets)...you would find they will show profits likely after 2017. You said it yourself, he is dumping unlimited amounts of money into a company. He knows he will make profits not concerned when. The money will comeback in profits. He would build his own custom clubs until right and call it a day if there were going to be no profits. I don't think you understand how much more of a niche market there is for his clubs, especially overseas. Watch when prices go up and people continue to buy. It's happened once, and people are buying more. He's not a dumb businessman. PXG in my opinion will be here for a while, with more JDM companies tapping into our market, and new OEMS to follow as they see that it works, there is a market for it. It's been proven or he would have closed up shop already.

I don't question what you say, and the clubs look good to me (although quite expensive). My point is that it is possible PXG would continue even if they don't make money. A person with a net worth of $2.6 billion is a lot of money to be bankrolled by, and Parsons obviously likes the idea of trying to create a product that is beyond what has been done before. To him, it could be a business and a hobby.

I don't know what kind of patents he has on the design (hollow clubs with some kind of plastic/foam fill), but if not, then PXG may face competition in the future. I don't think it matters to an amateur whether PXG goes out business down the road. I have Nike irons, and am not going to throw them away just because Nike doesn't make clubs anymore.

I had My Lynx Black Cat's long after they went down the tubes as a company. Just as a point of reference.

However, all this brings up a question a buddy and I were discussing today when we received the Taylor Made email about Rory signing on.

How the heck does Taylor Made make money paying all if these guys? Are they really selling that many $500 drivers? Or is Adidas just keeping them afloat?

Consider their world-wide sales, also the cost of producing the driver for them... you get the idea. ;)
