Grand Junction Area Course Intel

Looking for a little intel about courses in the Grand Junction area. We are thinking about going 10/17 to 10/20. Any info on quality of course, current conditions, course rankings, courses to play over others, which ones to skip, etc. we plan on playing 36, 36, 18 Friday to Sunday. We are looking at Redlands Mesa, Devils Thumb, Ironbridge. Are any of these worth playing twice? We might add in Terra Rado as on of our extra rounds. I have heard mixed reviews in the past about Lakota Canyon...mostly about course conditioning, any thoughts ? We don’t mind driving a bit, and we are thinking of staying in Grand Junction. You have many of the nicer ones listed, Redlands and Tiara would be a good 36 hole day. Devils thumb then down to Montrose for Cobble Creek would be an awesome day too. You might look into Battlement Mesa or if you are up for the adventure Rifle presents some unique challenges. Stay away from Lakota, great course but conditions might not be the best. That track has struggled with ownership etc... Ironbridge is definitely worth the play and a real gem.

We spent 4 days in the Rockies but only two for golf. Played Ironbridge and Redlands Mesa and would definitely return to play both. Ironbridge has some unpleasant members who refused to accept a twosome playing through, even when one of their group was late to the tee after a bathroom stop. But apart from that it's a superb course in great condition and with that amazing last 4 holes up in the canyon. Has to be the longest green to tee cart ride ever.

As for Redlands Mesa, we ranked it very high. Engh's design is kind of Trent Jones-ish with its elevated tees and heroic lines. I liked it very much, especially the location, being surrounded by the red cliffs. Seems like wherever you go in the Rockies the scenery is awesome and we got a great reception everywhere. Good beer and food rounded it all off. Special mention to the boys at the Moose Jaw bar in Frisco who educated us in American culture.

+1 with Chanceman. I really liked Redlands but the only gripe is that with Engh's green complexes. IMHO along with Fossil Trace and Red Hawk Ridge, His 3-tiered greens can be PENAL if you hit above the hole. You always get a tier and pin location sheet when you tee off. The day we played their copier was down and we went without one. The one thing I can say about playing in Grand Junction....... It can be very windy!!!!!!
