Big gap in P790

Hey guys, just got a new set of P790s and went out and played a few rounds over the week. I immediately had a gut feeling the the PW and AW were coming up a lot shorter than I expected.

Ive now done two range days with the flight scope mevo and my eyes and have confirmed my hunch.

 

The mevo has my 9i average carry at 155 yards.

The pitching wedge was averaging about 130-135 even when pumping up the swing and the AW about 120.

 

Anyone else seeing a big gapping between their 9i and PW? Everywhere else in the bag the gaps appear to be predictable (about 12 yards)

Have you had the lofts checked? Not uncommon for new clubs' specs to be considerably off.

The PW and AW are both 790s. Going to have their lofts as well as the 9i checked tomorrow. I did order them 1.5* flat so that might make sense if the builder accidentally weakened them as well.

I have 790s and wasn’t getting quite as much out of my 9 iron that I felt I should. When I went and did my loft and lies it was almost 2* weak. Everything has been pretty good since then.

PW - 125, 9i - 140, 8i - 155, 7i - 170, 6i - 190, 5i - 200, 4i - 210

shafts are OEM 105 DG’s. lofts are standard.

So had the loft/lie checked for the set. Although all were within “tolerance” I had 6 clubs about a half a degree off and the PW and AW were a degree weak.

 

Had the The PW and AW brought to spec and that gave me a 10 yard gap from the 9 to PW. It gave me a 20 yard Gap from PW to AW. Had the AW brought a degree strong and now I have 10 yard gaps from the 9-AW!

 

i didn’t realize that getting loft/lie direct from the manufacturer was a must so thanks all!

Interesting - those numbers wouldn't have been enough for a club loss of 10 yards for me.

I was also surprised a degree made a 10 yard difference. I will admit I was not striking the ball particularly well so I’ll keep an eye on it.

My theory: I have a tendency for a slight early release, I think the dynamic loft is exaggerated the weaker the loft is (I see this with my sand wedge and gap wedges as well) so I feel like in those higher lofted clubs strengthening or weakening with my swing exaggerates the results. I’m by no means a great golfer so that’s speculation
