Launch Monitor Analysis

Do I need a new driver shaft?
I recently was "fitted" with a Titleist 905R, 10.5 degree, V2 75 stiff driver. Here were my vector launch monitor averages with the club:

Launch Angle: 13.1
Swing Speed: 97.6
Ball Speed: 149
Total Spin: 2696
Back Spin: 2585

Is the 76 gram V2 shaft too much for my measley 98 mph swing speed?

I was losing a few balls high and right with this combo but my pro said the specs looked better than the other 4 drivers I demoed. This was the last driver I tested in a hour-long driver fitting so he said the high and right shots were probably a result of me being a little tired.

This is the first time I've worked with this pro so I'm a little hesitant on taking 100% of what he says as gospel. Am I over-analyzing? Should I trust his judgment or would a shaft change get me better results? I play to an 8 handicap if that helps.

I could really use some opinions.

Thanks in advance!

Without refering to software/charts I'd say your launch/spin numbers look pretty good as well.

As for shaft...don't get too tied up in swing speed, a lot of people forget about how they load the shaft (e.g. quick vs smooth transition) which will also effect which shaft is better for their particular swing.

In general those with quicker more agressive transitions tend to fit with stiffer shafts. (Think Sergio Garcia if you want an example or a really agressive transition/downward move toward the ball).

Thanks for the feedback guys.

The specs on this shaft would probably be OK for me in any other driver but I'm concerned that because it's a Titleist, the bore-through hosel and insertion depth is changing the characteristics of the shaft making it either too heavy or too stiff. I did lose some shots high and right so wouldn't that indicate that the shaft is too heavy or too stiff?

Again, maybe I'm over-analyzing?

Any more thoughts would be appreciated?

I'd say you are overdoig the analysis here. If you are playing of 8 you will lose some shots in some direction or another. Keep the first comment of this thread in mind: A "bang/smash factor" of 1.5 is really fantastic. If your swing has a "standard" flaw a high push might be the result. It is hard to blame the club unless you are a very steady ballstriker who knows what the ball should be doing. What is your driver doing now when you have a bad one? A problem might be indicated when you thought you had a great hit and the ball is doing something else.

For the V2 I found for myself that the heavier you go, the lower the ballflight gets. I used an 85g Tour Edition in my old driver for a lower trajectory and depending on the track I still put it in play.

Also, your information is not exact enough to make a judgement: is the ball curving to the right or is it starting the the right - or even starting a little left and ending up curving very right? Is the ball ballooning (starting flatter and propelling up) or does it almost leave an idiot mark on the club?

Hope that helps,

P

All good questions Pepperdinepat!

I guess I should just trust the professional and get a few rounds in with the new driver before I go jumping to conclusions and change the shaft. After all, he's a pro at a very respectable resort here in town and the inconsistencies of my swing are probably more to blame than anything else.

Thanks everyone for their feedback.
