While I have neither, I do have a Nikon 500G and a GolfLogix GPS... the latter being a fairly recent acquisition. I didn't plan on the GPS as I have been pretty satisfied with the Nikon, but the price was just too right to ignore.

I originally preferred the rangefinder because I like to visualize where I want to hit it and then get the distance. You can't really do that with the GPS. BUT... As I become more familiar with a course, I find the GPS gives me all the distance info I need and is quite a bit more convenient (although not as accurate as the laser).

I don't think I will be getting rid of the laser as I think it is more helpful playing a course I am not use to... plus if I ever play with a friend who does not have such a toy... I can always loan him one of mine.

I guess what I am trying to say is... if I could only have one, think I'd go with the laser.

My daughter bought me a skycaddie (SG2) for Father's Day this year and I loved the unit...until it stopped working. After months of the unit perfoming without a problem, it suddenly stopped receiving signals in September 2007. I contacted Skycaddie and sent it in for repairs (luckily I purchased an extended warranty). After a month without the unit, Skycaddie sent it back to me today. We had good weather today without a cloud in the sky and when I went to test the unit, it still didn't pick up a signal. I'm so frustrated I could throw the damn thing into a lake.

The Skycaddie turned out to be a piece of junk and the customer service is extremely poor. I'm going to try to fight it out to get my unit replaced but if I had to do it over again, I'd get the Pinseeker from Bushnell.

Buyer beware.

I got my SG4 for christmas, my initial reaction was that I loved it, and still do for the most part. What I don't like is I've had a couple of rounds where I couldn't get a signal, which sucks when you've been bragging to your buddy about it and he pulls out his pinseeker because I couldn't get a signal. Second, I'm going to have to dump another $60 bucks in subscription fees in a couple months, so that puts about $470+ into the unit and I'll get to do it again next year..........I like the convienence of the yardages without shooting the laser, but I'll probably ask for the pinseeker this year...........

I have every skycaddie they have made including the new color thing and when the course is mapped I always use it.. also have a bushnell pro (the compact tour device).. I love them both and would carry the finder with slope as well if they were a bit less bulky (and illegal for tooney and such)... It depends on where you play most of your golf... my home course is mapped well so I'm good with the caddie and have grown out of caring about exact yardages anyway... there was a time when I had to know a lot more about what was going on out there than I care to know now... playing for the enjoyment of just being out there these days....still carry the caddie though.
