better blades than 712mb with x100? miura tb 001 yonex mb fh1000 680mb?

I play 712mb with dgti x100. They are great but could use less spin. So here is a list I have come up with of heads i would like to try:

 

Yonex ezone mb

Titleist 680 mb

Miura tb

Miura 001

Mizuno mp 63

Fourteen fh1000 mb

 

Here are shafts that i would like to try:

 

Modus 3 120x

Modus 3 120tx

Modus 3 130x

Monaco flex?

Spb flex?

 

Please let me know your thoughts on a lower spinning option than what i have. I may just need a different shaft. I have heard miura are accurate but shorter. I have heard the yonex is fantastic. I do have 6 irons in the 712mb, 680mb, ezone mb, and miura 1957 that i want to try out the same shaft in and test. I want a shaft that is not going to be hard to get or find as well which may knock out some of them listed. I dont want kbs because i have had bending issues. Suggestions welcome. I know nothing about nippon and have never tried them. I have to do all this myself because no shops around here have demos. Thanks!

I've got the Nippon SPB's in my Miura CB 301's. I cant recall the spin numbers, but I know my launch came down about 3 degrees (from way too high to just too high) vs the Dynamic Gold X 100s with the shaft switch. I love the feel, and I would guess that the spin numbers came down as well - but I was focusing on launch angle, consistency and feel and don't remember if there truly was a difference. I would definitely give the SPB's a try.

To compare, my driver SS was 112-114. 6 iron was probably 90 (it was a few years ago, so I don't recall), but I generally carry a 6 iron 190.

Mine are an S flex hard stepped once. I could get away with either S or X, and would guess if you are in the DG X 100 you could do the X flx in the SPB as well.

I was anxious to try the MODUS (tried the 120X) but my launch crept back up with it as well as the hook that the SPB's seem to help keep at bay.

Glad you have the Ezone and 1957 in that group...probably my two favorite irons. Kind of wish I didn't sell my Ezone.

As I understand it, SPB are discontinued but available. I've never playrd them. Played the Modus 3 120 Stiff and did not find them to be low at all. Kind of high, penetrating, and drop out of the air. Too bad you're anti-KBS; the V Tour were quite a bit lower spinning for me in testing against the regular Tour.

thank you. I had c taper s+ and x and they both bent. No more kbs for me... i probably would want to stay away for SPB for fear that i would love them and not be able to get them when i need to.

I was fitted today for miuras went with the 1957 baby blades, with s400 shafts hard stepped gave me the launch I was looking for. Only hit 6 and 8 iron though. I had the modus in my 712s wasn't a fan. I just love the smoothness of an s400 plus the weight and ball flight. Just my 2 cents

I was going to say C-tapers would be low spin, but you've tried them...

Put Epon AF-Tours in your list of heads, if i was you (and get them in copper chrome if you like them) - and maybe try nunchuk iron shaft for something very different (haven't used the iron shaft mysefl, but love the driver shaft and want to try the iron version out).

I hit 1957 very well with dgti. But my eye doesnt like the shape. Its not that they are small, they just look funny to me. I hit them very well but i may put them on the bst soon. I like the look of the tb/001 better i think if i was to go miura. I dont have any other miura 6 iron to try other than my 1957 w/ dgti x100. So if anyone has a demo 6 head let me know.

As coops said, you have got to try the AF tours out if it's possible. A lot of players say they can't feel the ball when they have nutted a shot, well you REALLY can't feel the ball off the Epons. I'd like to think i can find the sweet spot fairly often and even Miura's forgings feel slightly clicky off the face.

You must be quite an athlete to overspin x100's

I'd say go with the spb even if you can't get them in the future. That could be possible with any shaft. You really can't beat them for launch and feel when it comes to steel...especially if you're already used to x100s. I'm partial to miura, but haven't tried the other irons you're considering. Just got the mb001s with steelfiber shafts and they are fantastic!

Well I have had a chance to get my hands on some of these and hit them. First I would like to look at the 712 in x100, modus 120x, and modus 130x.

I averaged about one yard further with the 130x, I felt like it was getting up quicker, which it was and I was surprised that it carried further than my x100 because it looked like it would be shorter. The 130x spins more than x100. but I think it hangs in the air a tad longer, so 130x and x100 were similar in distance and not sure why, 130x does spin a good bit more than x100. I think this is due to my average swing speed with the 130x was higher buy 1 or 2 mph. The 130x felt like it had a kick in the tip section through the ball. The 120x felt like a softer x100 profile, but it was spining way more too. Not surprising it was the shortest of the three, but it did launch a tad lower... Honestly out of the three I would keep the x100. I the 130x has an interesting feel to it, and needs to be tested more. I highly doubt going to a TX flex in the 120 modus would drop spin by 1000-2000 rpm, so I think the 120 modus is out.

Now the big surprise for me in hitting these was the [u][b]Miura 1957 baby blades[/b][/u]. They look slightly smaller, which is not a problem, but they felt super solid at impact and they just feel like they stay in the slot throughout the entire golf swing. They are just easy to hit, and easy to hit hard. 1957 was the longest distance, highest apex, and lowest spin. MY only complaint with them is I don’t like they way they look at address, I know many love them, but that’s all I can come up with that would keep these out of my bag. Its not because they are small, I don’t even want to say small, they are compact, but they feel so good, and swing so well with them.

[u][b]FH1000[/b][/u]. Surprised I got the numbers I did with an S300. This felt really nice, soft. The head size is slightly larger compared to most blades, just a big as the 1957 is small. Love the look of the back. Look at address the only issue is the topline is on the thicker side for a blade.

[u][b]680mb.[/b][/u] Looks shallower at address. Has the most offset in a blade that I’ve seen. The feel is very solid and feels great hitting it. I’m turned off by this one because it is hard to find a set in good enough condition to game, and I don’t like chrome.

[u][b]Yonex ezone mb[/b][/u]. Really good on the numbers, surprising with the 120x modus, because this shaft was the worst performer in the 712mb. Feel was good, but not as soft as the 1957 or fh1000. Similar feel to the 712mb. The topline is thin and looks great at address. This one has a taller feel to the blade height at address.

Yamaha 2014 MB or Srixon 925/945(in May) MB. I would recommend Shimada Pro shafts. Same weight and similar profile to Modus 120, but feel was better for me.

[/quote] only took 20 shots with the a demo 7 iron shafted with S200. It was quite high launching and felt somewhat hollow. Perhaps it was the construction of the head but was not all that impressed, although it did very well in distance.

ive got the ezones with NS proto 2s14
and had srixon pro 100 with NS proto c10

both of these set ups might take ur facny over the c-tapers or Dgs if u r looking for a very sturdy set up, but with great feel to the shafts , these are very good options,
the super peening range is discontinued.
monacco X or tx are a top idea a well they are flighted but a strong . non ballooning flight. the 8-9-pw are very very stable and lower flight,

if u play a lot in the wind these go well.

Yes MONACO's are the real deal for someone wanting to flight there ball. Have them in a combo set of EZONE CB's and MB's in S flex, really unique for me personally when hitting lower trajectory shots that carry further with less spin than all the above shafts mentioned...
