In my experience, as long as I'm in the ballpark of compression with my 105-110 swing speed, only feel changes. However, I have played with the b330rx in the summer and I do lose ball speed over my usual ProV1x. I also would spin the daylights out of it.

It all depends on trajectory. A Titleist fitter told me the only reason to choose a PV1 vs. PV1x for maximum driver distance is to get your shots closer to your ideal trajectory. The PV1 flies higher than the x. For a person that naturally hits a trajectory too low, the PV1 would be longer but a high hitter would likely be longer with the x. The trajectory difference between the PV1 and PV1x comes from the design of the different layers but not their softness. He indicated that softness is mostly a feel preference and not something that, by itself, significantly affects performance.

I think every brand and model has so many different characteristics in their design that it would be very difficult to isolate only one factor and say something like all soft golf balls have a higher trajectory or more spin or less distance that harder golf balls.

Mythbusters actually did an episode on the whole temperature vs golf ball compression debate. End result, there was absolutely no difference. However, colder denser air will affect the flight of the ball. But it will affect the flight of each ball the same as compression has no affect on air/wind resistance. In other words, a Pro V1 will fly slightly shorter in the cold than in the heat because of the difference in air friction. The whole summer ball winter ball thing is a feel/sound thing.
