New MannKrafted putter under way

I've been looking for a LH #9/Del Mar style putter with no sight line for a while now. I had inquired with Byron, but he had nothing available in LH that didn't have a line already on it. I saw a picture here a few weeks ago of a LH proto that Lamont had done and asked him if he could make something similar in stainless steel. The putter is in production now and it's looking great so far. I'll post pics as I get them. Below are the one I've received so far.

I'm keeping the stamping simple - just Lamont's logo in the cavity and on the face, and "Mannkrafted" on the sole. I'm not too picky on the face milling. I like the deep face milling on my Cameron Del Mar, but we'll see what Lamont comes up with.

I'm going with a sight dot on the topline. I putt better with no sight line on the flange.

Those pics were all from one day's work on the putter. It's just amazing what he can do in a such a short period of time.

Any ideas on finish? IMO this would look great with tuna milling and torched to a golden brown. White paintfill to set it off (with 1/2 other light colors in the 5-dot for contrast).

Has anyone ever made a del mar/#9 with a sound slot? Don't know why but lately I'm all about the beach!

I'm going to go with a satin finish with white and navy blue paintfill - I want this putter to be really clean and simple. I had a torched finish on a Byron GS DH89, but I prefer a nice bead-blasted satin finish. The milling marks should still be visible on the sides of the flange - I saw a carbon putter that Lamont did with this shape and I liked the way the milling marks looked there.

I've never seen a #9/Del Mar style with a sound slot. My Byron 006 had a slot but the DH89 did not. I think I prefer no slot.

Putter is all finished, save for the grip. It looks awesome. This is exactly what I had in mind when I ordered it.

Loving the minimalistic look on this one; sight dot is a huge improvement over a line on this headshape IMO.

Is the bottom a tri-sole or is it just the lighting in the pic?

May you hole many putts with this gem once you take delivery!

Thanks! I've never understood why most of the #9/Del Mar style putters (and all of the LH ones I've seen) have sightlines in the flange. These putters look so much cleaner with just a sight dot, and the flange area between the bumpers frames the ball really nicely and obviates the need for a sightline, IMO.

I don't think it's a tri-sole - it's just the lighting of the picture that gives that appearance.

Just wanted to update the thread after receiving the putter late last week. To correct my own post above, it wasn't just the photo, the putter does have a bit of a beveled sole.

The putter is beautiful in person and sets up really well for me. I put it right in the bag and played a round with it last Friday morning and my first impression was that it felt [i]really[/i] firm to me (using a Pro V1). I was a little surprised that it felt that firm. I've been using a SS Cameron California Del Mar with the deep face milling and that felt pretty soft to me, and the face milling on the new putter was pretty similar. My first thought was the grip - it's a midsize Gripmaster Stitchback. I had a stitchback on my old Byron GS DH89 and that putter felt pretty firm as well. I like the stock pistolero grip on the Del Mar, so I ordered one of those to see if changing the grip will make a difference in the feel.

I spoke to Lamont and he suggested the same thing, and said that the Gripmasters can definitely make the putter feel firmer. If that doesn't work, I can send it back to him for some more face milling to try and soften it up a little. I'll swap out the grip this weekend and give it a go.

[color=#008000]That is beautiful! I love this style putter and wish I could putt well with one, but they just don't suit my stroke. The grip issue could be the stitchback - I've had a few and found the putters they were on felt a little firm as well. Good luck on the grip switch![/color]

I was able to change the grip earlier this week to an SC pistolero, and the putter definitely feels less firm. It's still not quite as soft feeling as the Del Mar, but I'll play with it tomorrow and see how it feels outside.

I contacted Lamont and he told me to send it back for some more face milling. I received the putter back last week and took it out this past weekend and it feels great. It has a nice soft click, but not too soft (using Pro V1's). I'm really happy with it.

Gotta say I was initially excited at this point that this thing might land on the BST... then I remembered it's a lefty. Hell it's still sexy enough to give me pause!

Glad it worked out for you; curious as to what the new milling pattern looks like as the first run appeared to be pretty significant tuna milling. Pics?

Thanks. I like this putter a lot. It feels great after the additional milling from Lamont. He does great work.
