Never too early to plan.... I am coming in for a few days for meetings and have the option of coming in early to play some golf. Wondering what courses people suggest out there.

Depending on where you are staying and how easy it will be for you to get around there are a lot of great options. Shoal Creek is a great option up north, along with Tiffany Greens (wouldn't recommend it if you're playing on the weekend though)

Down south there is Creekmoor which I just got to play this year and it's really a good track.

I am pretty sure we are staying at the InterContinental since that is where all the meetings are taking place. There is a shot that I can get on The National but if that falls through I'd liek to go with some ideas. Also, I won't have a car but I am sure there are taxi's there.

Do you know where in KC? Kansas side, Missouri side, etc.? Those mentioned above are nice on the Missouri side. On the Kansas side I can add a bunch more; Golf Club of Kansas, Sycamore Ridge, Prairie Highlands, Falcon Ridge and others are fun.

Sorry, apparently typing while you were submitting. We don't have a ton of taxi's in KC (but you should be able to call a company). Based on your location I would stick with Tiffany Greens (wide open, good shape, ok design), Shoal Creek (a bit tighter but a fun course). You could go old school and do Swope Memorial. When its in good shape its really fun (not always in good shape though). Its a Tillinghast that most people write off because its short and cheap (under $40 I think). I believe Tom Watson has said that the 12 or 14th hole is one of his all time favorites.

You are staying down on the Plaza, which is a great area for food and nightlife, but it is not close to any public courses. Also, taxis aren't common and are expensive. I'm down near the Plaza often. I'm not sure when you are in town and how long you are staying, but I'd be happy to pick you up and go play a round.

In order, my favorite public tracks in town are Sycamore Ridge, Golf Club of Kansas (member), and Stone Canyon. If you want to tee it up, let me know.

tahnks... I will have to check them out. The good thing is that this trip is 100% funded by the people bringing me out... so I wouldn't be averse to spending a little more if it warranted it. After all, I don't get around much, anymore.

In light of recent events my trip has actually been cancelled. Too many people were pulling out even though KC is a long way from St Louis. I have some choice words for them but if they reschedule I will let you guys know. Thanks for the help and if you are ever in the Syracuse, NY area, let me know.

The riots in St. Louis caused people to back out of a trip to KC? That's like saying I'm not going to Dallas because a hurricane might hit New Orleans.

It is a business trip and I think they guys just didn't want to go. There were about 100 going and they said close to 40 cancelled. When you're not the one paying for it, it is easy to back out.
