HB Louisville Grand Slam full set

A guy at a local swap meet has a set of Louisville Grand Slam clubs for sale. Set consists of 1,2,3 and 4 woods with matching serial numbers, 2-9 reg. 230R irons and a putter. This set is in excellent condition and he is asking $60 for it. My question is, is there any re-sale value in these if I get them at that price?

Grand slam was the retail line for PowerBilt clubs....Well, actually PowerBilt was the Pro shop line for H&B, Louisville Slugger.
The were both priced about the same for the top line stuff. Good woods. They probably do not have the PowerBilt brfass back weights. but the heads are similar, if not identical to the P/B's

Thanks for the info. I think I might try to buy this set, it would be fun taking these out for a round or two.

Agreed, all too often some folks here, tend to dismiss all Department Store, Retail, or Sporting Goods Store clubs as junk, without considering that some of the vintage, top of the line clubs in this group, are quite good and true classics. Take the older Wilson Sandy Andy and Spalding Personal Model wedges, along with some good woods and irons.
I have seen several different sets of the Grand Slam woods, as refinishing projects, and depending upon the quality of the workmanship, they can be as beautiful as any of the older clubs! I think in a lot of instances, the quality of the persimmon crop deteriorated, and not the craftsmanship.

Would someone rank dept store retail and sporting goods offerings

like
sears/Montgomery Ward/jcpenney etc
retail? ..as in lowest end k-mart
who else sold clubs
Pep Boys? I think I read Sam Sneads being sold at like an automotive parts/service type chain
What sporting good stores were there? Big 5...

Does anyone want to get into that a little? To me, it's interesting to know what types of places clubs were sold in

Sears had great clubs in the early 1960". they were made by Golfcraft. Autographs were Arnold Palmer and Stan Leonard. Less expensive shafts and maybe grips. but the heads were Golfcraft through and through/
Powerbilt's Grand Slam, like yours, were the top of the retail store line. Citation was the pro shop headliner.
In the early days, before WWII, MacGregor had some lines that were a little bit more expensive than the tourneys sole pro shops. Chieftain an Earnest Jones come to mind.
