Why do you play golf?

Recommended Posts

scholarship, go pro, love of the game?
Hey everyone, just wanted to know what got everyone into the game and what they are hoping to accomplish through golf?

I starting playing my freshman year of high school just to spend some time with my dad, and never looked back. I am going to be a PGA Professional, but i don't know if i want to do teaching, trounament ops, or a management job yet.

I would love to be a touring pro but it's not gonna kill me if I don't get there. I think I can realistically get a scholarship to a college and become a PGA teaching pro, but I'm not yet sure if I'll go down that avenue.

To be honest I play golf for the enjoyment of hitting a good shot and because it fulfils my competitive drive in a sport I'm good at ;)

Well first off every since I started golfing I feel in love with the game. I love being outside, competition, being with my friends and family, and the challenge of working on my game.

As far as goals I would really like to get a scholarship out of it and get my PGM. It'd be awesome to go pro but I highly doubt it would happen because you have to be amazing and I'm far from it.

I may do some competitve golf in highschool and college, but have no plans to go professional, or any desire to. Sure winning would be nice, but i have aspirations to go into forensic sciences, and eventually work on murder cases later on in my life. I still have some years of competitive golf left, but then its all work for me. ;)

started playing when my knees got to bad to play soccer any more.....made the time go by while waiting for them to get better. Realized I was getting pretty decent and decided to stick to it.

Now I'm obsessed and want it all, but I have come to realize that it might not happen due to lack of time and large lack of money.

I basically came into golf when I had to face the decision between soccer and golf. Golf won. Would I like to be a touring pro? Heck yes! Is that realistic? Probably not. Would I like to play college golf? Most definitely. Will it kill me if I don't? As long as I get a good education instead, no. Golf will always be in my life. It is the one game where you can't achieve "perfection" and I think that's good for someone like me who is a super perfectionist, almost to the point of being obsessive compulsive. I'm just enjoying all of the time i have with it now because I know that, realistically, this time will be gone in a few years.

I wanna be a pro. I am working hard on it. I feel golf is the only thing that I can go out by myself and win of lose a tourney it is nobody else fault but mine. It is basically the only place i can get away from my life. I have lotso f highs and lows and golf i can't bring it out there or I will never get anywhere.

i just love it. my dad played when i was a kid and i used to ride on the cart when he played with his regular group. I learned A LOT back then but didn't realize it until I had my own group.

Sunday dinners in my family went like this....if dad won.....chinese food

if dad lost...mom cooked....

Sounds crazy but that still is great memory.

Started playing as a challenge. Teach myself and get to a 10 handicap or better.

By the time that was done I loved all the other, more important aspects of golf; open air, good company, solo competition, constant hardship and the natural integrity of the game.

Now my wife loves it too. She does not play but anywhere she wants to go for a trip is fine by me if there's a decent golf course near by.

Good luck to all you guys who want to be touring pros. Hope you make it.
