Hey everyone! Looking forward to learning from all the experience here!

This is why I picked up a club if anyone wants to hear my story!

I broke my right collar, sternum and 4 upper ribs 1.8 years ago. My physical therapist recommended something to build back muscle, strength and dexterity. She recommended bowlin, batting cage or golf in particular. I purchased a Cobra S9 driver and bought my 1st bucket in March. My 1st swing I hit the ball! My second swing it went 100'. My third swing I said, "s*** this is hard"!

I don't think it took me long to get into the swing of it. I am 6' 163lbs. I am now driving 220yrds consistently. Driving range is only 220yrds at fence. I hit the fence about knee level so I don't think I am driving further than 220. Yesterday I bought a 9 iron from the salvation army for .99c. I was apprised that I hit it straight every time whether it was 5' or the one that hit 100y sign or the one that hit 120y flag behind it. That is the same story with my driver. I though hell I might be good!

As I meet make new friends in golf I wonder if I will hit it as far as people say they can? So I came here to find out more. I became a little overwhelmed at all the technical information and wealth of knowledge that it takes to be successful. My confidence has waivered in light of everything I don't know about the game...which is everything!!

I'm not at the range today because I sEnt my driver head about 200yds down the range yesterday:(

Besides the immortals like Jones, Hogan, and Nicklaus, the words of Jackie Burke and Lee Trevino still ring well in my mind. Tom Watson has a great DVD (Lessons of a Lifetime). Through this site I found a youtube video by Johnny Miller that is his 10 minute lesson of the entire golf swing...very helpful to me on my journey...just search Johnny Miller swing lesson on youtube and you should come accross it.

BTW the filter isn't for these guys. It's for the varying opinions of the golfwrx community. Definitely use your filter when reading DeNinny's posts. That guy is certifiably nuts. Trust me on that. I've been reading his posts for years.

  • 1 year later...

It's been a year guys. Last august someone gave me a set of PGA series2 blades. I played with this set for 4 months. Very light. I had to really learn how to get that blade going fast to get any distance. Then someone gave me a set of Launcher pros! Wow,I was slaying them with these. I am still using the launchers, I like them. I still use my PGA P and SW with my 50° for detail work on chipping.
My first time success with the driver a year ago has translated well to my accuracy in my drives about 50%.
This week I have broken 300 yards and I'm able to replicate that same feeling. Today I hit 310 on the fairway. (I use a gps tracker...I think it is accurate?).
I found out last month I'm a left handed putter. This has changed my game. I feel it is an advantage.
I'm so serous that I have taken a job at the historic Timiquana Country Club in Jacksonville just so I can play free golf everyday. I can stay on the driving range for hours, 3, 4 large buckets.
If any pros or teachers are in Jacksonville and would like to play this course please let me know. I have an excellent guest home. It would be an excellent trade out for lessons and experience!

Sounds like you got it bad. Keep golf in balance with the rest of your life is my advice. It can overtake everything if you let it. Eventually you'll need to admit you will never master the game, and that you are comfortable playing at a certain level. For me it is playing 3X a week and practicing 1-2X a week (but I'm retired.) When I was working with kids I was happy to get out twice a month.

I do have it bad...like crack. Worse than my blonde fetish! Worse than my AMG addiction! It's all I think about. From the time I wake up till the time I go to sleep, since I first touched it.
I tell you, in 40 years it was never even a thought in my mind even the one miserable time I tagged along.
I have the opportunity to take a lessor station in life for greater enjoyment. No exs, no brats...
Golf stories are like fish stories but over the last few weeks at the driving range I have noticed multiple people sitting down and watching me drive. Is it because I'm only 6' 167lbs? At first it made me uncomfortable, now I really enjoy it. I think that says something?
So why not!?
