A Sixty Year Old's Frustration at the Lack of Interest in the Champion's Tour

I'm close to the OP's age (A few years below his) and I think a bit has to do with comparing today's Champion's Tour fields to years ago. There is just no comparison. I remember attending a Senior Tour stop at Rancho Park here in L.A. about 20 years ago. I was standing on the range with Arnie, Gary Player, Trevino, Chi Chi, Miller Barber, etc.The only one missing was Jack.. As good as these guys today are, there is no comparison to that.

That said, I do watch the Champion's Tour when it's on.

Actually the driving range had both both mats and real grass. I think it was changed this year because there were lots of complaints that patrons couldn't watch them warm up last year because the grass driving range was in the valley and they only allowed players down there. So this year they gave the players the choice of practicing were ever they wanted. Some went down in the valley for the real grass and tohers stayed up on the mats so patrons could watch. Freddie, the walrus and many more practiced on the mats.
[/quote] Also Freddie probably stayed up top to hit off mats as its a little easier then going all the way down, esspecially with an impending playoff. I think the golf channel did a grat job showcasing the beauty in the calgary area, just wish it would have been on a little earlier so more could have seen it. On another note the players seem to really love the event and its great for Shaw and the charities they support that they've got two great winners to begin the event. The event has one more year locked up at canyon and will be in Calgary for the next three. Personally I feel like canyon is the perfect course for these guys and think most enjoy it alot.

Funny how things come around. This current Champions Tour wave represented the mediocre years prior to Tiger Woods showing up on the scene. No one watched back then either.

Even though I am old enough to play the Senior Tour, it ranks third, actually 4th behind the PGA, LPGA and European tour in interest to me.

I think professional sports are for athletes in their prime.

Not only this, I think most people prefer to watch the best of the best; the elite players.
And I think most of us would rather watch this:

over this:

Yep. I'll watch the champs tour for a few minutes if nothing else is on as I flip through the channels. I may even stay a while if they happen to be focusing on Fred Couples.
