A Sixty Year Old's Frustration at the Lack of Interest in the Champion's Tour

I know it was shoved to a late coverage time but was no one else impressed at the great final round scores posted by Freddy and Billy Andrade. For Christ sakes Freddy shoots a course record final round, chips in for eagle on the final hole and Andrade follows him with an eagle to force a playoff and not a peep on the Tour Talk board. I am disappointed to say the least.

And I guess as an add on nothing regarding Ms. Ernst's first career victory in thrilling fashion holding back half of the Great Korean nation golf dynansty on the LPGA tour prior to the Champs coverage.

I think the Tour Talk forum kind of exists as the default PGA TOUR/European Tour section. You won't find much talk in here about the web.com, Champions, Challenge, Sunshine, Japan, Asian or Australasian tours.

There is a sub forum devoted to the LPGA Tour, and I'm sure Ms. Ernst's victory was greatly discussed there.

Even though I am old enough to play the Senior Tour, it ranks third, actually 4th behind the PGA, LPGA and European tour in interest to me.

I think professional sports are for athletes in their prime.

Not only this, I think most people prefer to watch the best of the best; the elite players.

I think if college or high school golf tournaments were televised they would draw very small viewing audiences.

If there's nothing too sink our teeth into or some half baked rumor about a pro's shoe size grew while he was administering deer antler piss, there no interest from the under 40 crowd. I on the other hand watched PGA, Web.com, LPGA and a half bottle of Tanqueray disappear.

TGC needs to do something about their current telecast crew that they have going for the Champions Tour. They are dry and boring (voice included). They need a new cast with some more energy. just my opinion. If Freddie is not in the mix, i no watch.

I tuned in for a bit, lotsa guys on that tour from my era of PGA players (Andrade, Couples, Cook, etc). That tour needs some help though, no Jack or Arnie, Mex, Player or Chi Chi. Most of the guys playing it now were just average players when I started following golf seriously in the late 80's early 90's.

Likewise.

Freddy is probably the last of the golfers I was most interested in. The leftovers were also rans back in the day and are just as new to me these days as the current crop of PGA players. However I also admit that for the most part, I'd rather be on the fairway than watching TV.

I'd rather watch women's basketball.
Wow, that's pretty low. Women's basketball isn't even a sport I don't think, well at least I hope not because it is terrible to watch the supposedly best woman on the planet at their sport could get smoked by the best 14-15 yd old buys in the US.

Either way, its not like people are going to sit and watch a ton of golf on TV, you can only handle so much. So if your going to watch the PGA, your highly unlikely going to sit and watch the coverage for hours on end of another event. Much less when you can just look up the results.

For short game clinics, the Champions Tour guys, a lot of them probably still have vastly superior short games to the young guys on tour. Freddy definitely case in point.

Saw Austin Earnst win the LPGA event. Nice win.

For the most part, however, its September in MN and time is ticking down for nice weather. TV in general doesn't get turned on much.
Tee time at 1:00. See yas later!

I like to watch the Champion's tour events. I'll also watch the LPGA, Euro Tour, Web.com etc, I have more interest in the PGA Tour. One of the problems watching golf is that if you are rooting for a particular player, the chances of that player winning or even contending are very small. Unlike most sports, there are 130 plus competitors and not just two teams. Your team usually has close to a 50% chance to win, this is not really the case in golf. I think that this is one of the reasons that so many people have rooted for Tiger Woods, there was always a good chance that he would be contending. I've decided that I'll just watch golf because I like to and not necessarily get wrapper up in who wins. I'm usually disappointed if I do. Oh, and I can't watch women's basketball.

Golf swings are like babes in a way. If you see enough 20 year olds, you don't need to see any 50 year olds.

Name a 20 year old whose swing looks as good as Freddie's.

Yep. Freddie Couples, Bernhard Langer, lots of very talented players that have won the biggest events. I have no doubt those guys could short game circles around a lot of the current PGA rank and file. I'm only referring to the top, competitive seniors, who are still wildly good.

only so much time to watch golf so I want to see the best guys play on the biggest stage ... what would rory shoot on the same course in the same conditions ?

perhaps its my age but I didn't grow up idolizing the guys playing now and for the most part the guys dominating now did not even have that great of a regular career (save Langer and a few others) so its hard for me to think wow these guys are the best of the best instead of the best of the rest left. I was at the last champions tour and the finish was great, you couldn't ask for better. Let's remember that these guys aren't in their 20's anymore, but they can still play the game.

Actually the driving range had both both mats and real grass. I think it was changed this year because there were lots of complaints that patrons couldn't watch them warm up last year because the grass driving range was in the valley and they only allowed players down there. So this year they gave the players the choice of practicing were ever they wanted. Some went down in the valley for the real grass and tohers stayed up on the mats so patrons could watch. Freddie, the walrus and many more practiced on the mats.
