Graphite Design AD-DI 5 R1 Driver Shaft, Anyone hit this?

Recommended Posts

The specs on this driver shaft, weight, torque etc, fit what I am looking for, but the price is steep and there is nowhere to try it out.

Just wondering if anyone has seen one in the wild and actually hit it. If so, what would you compare it to?

How did it perform? Feel? Spin? launch ? What length did you play it? Tipped?

Note - I am not interested in the 6-S, which seems to be pretty common. Only the R1 Regular in 5 series.

90 - 92 mph driver smooth swinger.

Thanks

I have the Tour AD-DI 5 STIFF in my 913D2 and Ping G25 and Adam 12LS. It's a consistent, smooth shaft. Feel is very subjective, personally, I categorize the feel as active feel and dull feel. This shaft does not feel whippy, to my surprise, since I play it at 46". I make it longer so that I don't have to swing fast (a la, smoother swing). Because I play it at 46" I can get away with the STIFF as the regular does feel whippy to me, and if I feel whippy, I mentally think I will lost control, even it does not.

To me, the shaft does not generate a lot of spin (I swing between 95-105), and the reason I have three different heads is because the heads themselves create different spin and ball flight. So depending on the courses (ie, more dog legs), weather and wind conditions, I play different head. Now a days, the golf balls just wants to go straight, so keeping the club weight, length, balance consistent making it easy to not have to tinkle my swing on course, especially the driver exaggerates your faults. But, you knew all that.

For a shaft torque spec at 4.6 (for R1 is 4.7), It feels like under 4.0, probably because my swing speed and shaft flex and length combination. Now a days, you can tune your shaft to do anything.

Conclusion: I have no regret spent the $$$, I am sure you can tell since I have 3 of them.

BTW, there is Tour AD 40, graphite Design just won't make it easier for you to get it. And I've got 2 of them that I am trying them now.

Thanks for the reply tiger168.

I play driver at 45.5 inches and prefer a relatively whippy shaft to force me into making a smooth transition and to take advantage of every bit of shaft kick. I rely on technique to keep the spin down.

I also find that a lighter flex shaft is less of an issue with a lighter clubhead like the Optiforce I play. I like your description of "active" yet "dull". Sounds like it has a good kick but not an exaggerated response. Exactly what I am looking for. I'll probably go with the R1 5 when I have some disposable $.
