Looking to make the trip out this year but was trying to get recommendations from anyone that has been previously. What days are best to go, where to play in the areas. accomodations.. I was thinking about trying to maybe go to the Wednesday practice round since the guys are usually a little more accessible then maybe playing golf Thursday and going back to tourney Friday and the weekend maybe?? Any suggestions? Id also like to take full advantage of 16th as well.

Sounds like a good plan... You could actually play every morning and be at the course by 1:00pm. As for the 16th, if you want seats you have to be at the gate first thing in the morning, then race with all the college students on a 700yd dash to get the open seats. Unless you can get some VIP passes to the sky boxes.

Ive been to the Masters and several US Open practice rounds and everyone was pretty willing to sign autographs or chat it up between shots, and those are majors. Do you find them to be a even more relaxed in Phoenix?

Thee are so many people, even on Wednesday that I doubt ti is as casual as other places. I've played the pro-am but never gone to a practice round (the one that I played in was at Grayhawk instead of TPC). On the years that I go I tend to go on Friday and do the concert on Friday night. Sunday is probably the lowest crowd day of the actual event. My guess is that it goes Saturday-Friday-Thursday-Sunday on numbers of people.

Saturday is the most crowded day. Truly a zoo. Sunday, the attendance drops significantly due to the Super Bowl.

So go Friday Saturday maybe? Play golf Wednesday and Thursday?

The only thing I'd caution you about is PHX is going to be a zoo and golf will be overpriced as the Super Bowl is there the same weekend

I have not looked at the dates yet... though I know there was talk of making it a WED - SAT tourney because the SB is here this year... past years when we have had the SB and PO on Sunday it has been a cluster F*.

It depends if you want to watch a lot of golf or just be part of the zoo. When I lived out there I used to like to go on Thursdays or Sundays because it wasn't nearly as crowded and I like to follow groups instead of sitting in one spot all day. Friday and Saturday are crazy with the amount of people. It's hard to move in the area around 15-17.

It will be a total S__T Show this year with the Superbowl in town expect 40-60% price bumps at the higher end tracks Troon etc. Many will be booked solid with corporate stuff for super bowl. You prob wont be able to play at Grayhawk due to pro am stuff. Hotels will be way over priced and hard to find. I usually have a group that come out for the week for golf and the tourney but they all passed this year due to costs.

Our typical week was Golf Wen and Fri Tourney on Thursday if we were not too hung over another round Sat and everyone leaves Sunday.

Fri and Saturday are very very busy days at the tourney, Saturday is a total logjam and I usually avoid it like the plague. I like Thursday because it is a little more quiet and you can get some good seats at 16 or just walk around or both.
