I think most people do in the cold. I tried going all the way down to dt solos that i got for free but they were still mushy in 40 degree weather. If it's above 50 then theres not much to worry about, but I switched to regular z stars and titleist velocities and I actually learned to really love them both over all. I hit my longest drive ever on my final round when it was 38 with a velocity actually. Youre going to lose distance in the cold no matter what, so using a more playable ball for the loss of swing speed and the cold makes it a bit more enjoyable, and you dont want to cry every time you lose one since they dont cost $4 a ball =)

I've experimented with softer balls in cold weather and I'm not sure it makes much difference.

If it's windy (even if it's cold and windy) I stay with the usual pro v1. In windy conditions I know I'll need to pitch, chip and putt well so I stay with a ball I like around the greens.

In response to the difference it makes, I think your right for the most part, especially in the context of distance, as your just not going to be hitting the ball as far on most shots, and a softer ball doesn't become a pro v1 just because its cold. Your performance and swing are what are affected most, and a straighter, softer ball just kinda helps keep the game going. I mainly do it for the feel, my b330's and pro v1x's feel a little harsh on cold days below 40 or so, I mean they do compress less when it's that cold, but not to a margin of losing 10-15 yards because of the ball.

I've never changed because of wind though. That's more shot selection than anything IMO.

I played in 42 degrees with 15 mph winds last week I wore shorts and a under armour shirt and izod sweater. I was burning up by the 5th hole.

I didn't start playing well toward the end until I had finally let a few beers get in to me. Being cold, I held out on having any at all the first 6 holes or so.
