New from South Coast of Oregon

Recommended Posts

So I have been lurking on the site for a while, registered last summer. Finally got the courage up to post. 31 years old from South Coast of Oregon. 22 Miles north of the Bandon Dunes Resort. I take people to and from the resort in my job as a cab driver and I am always jealous. I have been playing since I was 8, although I took 11 years off from the game after high school. In high school, I played all of the time, and as such, my best round was 75 on Sandpines in Florence, Oregon (when I was 17 after playing 36 every day all summer long). I have never had a handicap calculated, although next spring, that will change. I generally play a little 9 hole course called Sunset Bay that is less than a mile from the Ocean, though it is in a valley so no ocean side views. About once a month, I play Bandon Crossings, about 10 miles south of the resort, and it is my favorite course I play now. My favorite course I have ever played is Pacific Dunes (in high school). My dream course is Pebble Beach (I will make this happen before I am 40). I love the game. I love playing, practicing, thinking about, writing about, anything related to golf. I have written a couple of stories I would like to share. Like one that is my beginnings in golf. Where would be the appropriate place to post them?

Tim is that you? Welcome to the wrx. Fellow wrxer's will be looking forward to your participation. Start on General Golf Talk. Does Crossings still have thatfearful par 3 17th?

Not Tim. LOL. Crossings still has the par 3 17th, but it has never been fearful to me. Of course, I club up and take the ravine short out of it. The par 5 5th is my nemesis. I cannot seem to keep it out of the hazard in front, no matter if I go for it or lay up. That hazard has eaten at least 10 of my balls.

That is a funky approach shot. I always walk to the cart path to take a look to see if it's clear only to see my shot disappear somewhere in the distance. I think I'm 1 for 10 on that hole.

Yeah. I've taken lately to laying up and then just aiming for the mound long and right. Then again I am not very good so a lot of times, if I hit the fairway, I will hit a bad shot on the layup and leave myself 150-160 in and Mr Pride won't let me take my lumps and pitch it to 100 yards. So I pull 8 iron, hit another poor shot that disappears into the ether. I am going to practice so much (when the rain stops falling) so I can conquer that darn hole.

Welcome from Medford, Oregon.

Actually been thinking about driving up to Bandon for a round week after next. I've never played it before and although it will be a marathon of driving 2.5 hours each way it's been a dream of mine too!

Enjoy GolfWRX! There are a bunch of PDX'ers and a few of us State of Jefferson golfers on here. Check out the NW forum for more local posts.

That is about the same distance for me, it is totally and completely worth the drive. I have made that trip twice this month, and each time the trip seems shorter.

Do you play 18 or 36 when you go? I'm thinking 36, but it's going to be a painful drive home.

I play 18. I go during the week and leave after I take my kids to school.

The last time I went I teed off at 12:40 pm on Pacific, and I was the last to go off. The group in front of me went off at 11:30. I played in just under 3 hours.

If I went on the weekend, which would be highly unpopular with the wife, I am sure I could get 36 in but the payback would be hell.

This time of year you really have to time it perfect to get 36. I can leave really early, so it would be possible to get there at 8.

I'm thinking it might be more enjoyable to hit a few balls at the range, maybe hit the little practice holes first. But, I also would like to see the courses. I'll figure it out.
