Ball Speed vs. Shaft Flex ?

I have been on a launch monitor for a couple weeks now trying to figure out my driver. My ball speed is usually somewhere between 140-145. What flex shaft should I be using with this ball speed? My launch angles are staying in the single digits also. I currently use a stiff flex NV in a SQ Max head. Thanks in advance, Mike

I've always been under the impression the approach is to look at your swing speed when trying to determine your shaft. The ball speed equals the effect of your swing speed and how square you make contact. I would guess the compression aspect of the ball also comes into effect, anong with the flex, and flex point of the shaft.... I'm not a clubmaker, but whenever I have worked with fitters, my shaft flex was based mostly on swing speed... then launch/spin consideration... just my 2 cents...

Swing speed would be the more direct way to approach this, but if you are getting reasonably good contact I'd say your SS is 93-97. There's a lot of other information that would be helpful in recommending a shaft, but I'd say you are in the R flex range for most shafts. Also, single digit launches and the NV in S are not doing you any favors. You need to get your launch up. The VS Proto launches a little higher and the NVS higher yet. Lots of options for you, but best to get the complete picture before proceeding.

My swing speed is just fastter than yours only barely and ball speed same. I use S flex due to a faster tempo and transition and S works great for me...Remember flexes are not standard and within shafts. Lots of stuff going on like tip soft, medium, stiff, kick points low , mid, high and butt stiffness...If you can get ahold on a copy of GolfWorks big catalog Maltby has a guide of shafts he has tested and the playability factor...that might help...Good Luck
