Good info, missed this the first time around. Just picked up a Special 51 K Grind to use as an in-between wedge with various Hogan sets. Notice that the brochure doesn't call it a gap wedge, so neither am I. Maybe need to find a SW to match up with it. I'll pass on the 62* though.

Wonder if the K Grinds were Hogan's version to compete against the Ram TW Scoring System wedges? Sure seems that way.

I got a K56 years ago, and other than its satin finish it seems essentially identical (in so far as a hand ground product can ever be) to a standard Special SI. If pushed, I'd take the Special SI as my preference.

Then I got a K62 this winter out of curiosity. It's a Hogan, it's vintage, I'm a Tom Kite fan, it was cheap and it's stupidly lofted - so might as well scratch the itch. Haven't really given it much time yet, as I've generally played nothing more lofted than a 56 or 58 for a few years. But I am putting a bit more effort into my short game this year, so am interested to see whether a bigger toolkit helps or hinders.

That would seem to lead naturally to getting the K51. It's not that I'm not tempted, but as I bend pretty much all my pitching wedges to somewhere between 50 and 52 anyway, it hasn't been a priority yet. 9* bounce on a pitching wedge was quite forward looking for the time though.

Play all the Hogan lofts standard, so I had a gap with the '99's between the 48* PW and 56* SI. Corresponding roughy to 75 - 95 yards. Choice was to go hard SI or soft PW, typically the latter. Came down to whatever I found first, a K51 or a Hogan "53". Probably will bump it a degree when I take to get adjusted.

I have not been all that enamored with playing any Lob wedge, let alone a 62*. Tendency is to quit on the shot, with less than desirable consequences. But like you mention B-S, placing more emphasis on short game play. Meaningful stroke saving that isn't about distance. So gradually becoming reacquainted with several 60* wedges. Trying to sort thru what sole shape I prefer. Amongst other factors. Results have been middling at best so far. Doesn't provide a shot that can't be performed with a laid open SW.

Funny you should say that Fella - as I'm in 2 minds whether or not to bend the '99 Equalizer weaker. Still need to get round to playing that set in the rotation... been sidetracked by some Mizunos and some Wilsons.

I can see the attraction of a lob wedge if it lets you hit soft pitch shots without opening the face, and there may be advantages in having a lofted wedge with less bounce than a SI if you run into tight lies.

I think there's a lot to learn in terms of what club you can hit from what lie. I'm finding that even in practice, nevermind out on the course with something at stake, that a 60* wedge can be quite inconsistent whether it pops the ball up nicely, or just slides underneath the ball and drops it in front of your left foot. I don't feel I have quite the same consistency issue with a 56*.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
