Plano, TX area golf?

Going to be in the Plano, TX area this summer. Anyone know of any good courses that aren't too expensive (I'm a college student)?

I'll be next door in Carrollton for a few days at the end of May myself. Anybody know if Indian Creek is any good? Reasonable? Coyote Ridge looked overpriced when I stopped there a few years ago.

Indian creek - creeks course is great. Only knock is pace of play.

A short drive east on the george bush turnpike to fire wheel bridges course is what I would recommend for both of you. Great value and nice course. Pecan hollow is an east plano course that I've heard great things about. It recently went thru renovations. The tribute in the colony is great. Usually runs about 75-120. Golfnow often has good deals on it. Watters Creek in east plano is a very solid track as well.

Firewheel is your best bet for affordable golf with good variety (63 holes). Sherrill Park is another affordable option but pace of play can sometimes suck.

Golfnow typically has good rates on Firewheel.

Plano is kind of a dead zone. I don't play there much. Most of the better courses are north or south of plano. It's worth it to drive a little further to play a better track IMO. I live in dallas and here are my favorite bargain courses to play. Prices are guesstimates

Stevens park (south of downtown dallas) - $40 - old course with elevation - unique
Cedar Crest (south of downtown) - $35 - they played the 1927 pga champ here
Grapevine muni (has three 9 hole tracks) - 30-$50 range
Trails of frisco - $40
Heritage Ranch (allen 20 min north) - $50-60 - pretty good track that not many know about
Fossil creek (30 min towards ft worth) - $45-60 - one of my fav courses around dallas area
Indian creek - 2 courses - $35-70 - Creeks is the better course.
Chase oaks - in plano - used to play but haven't in years.

Trails of Frisco is decently priced. Pace of play was very slow last time I was there though.

Played Texas Star a few weekends ago. Very nice track and pace of play was good. Sometimes you can find a deal on it on Golfnow.

Zero doubt that Texas Star is the best public course in the DFW area IMO. It's never more than $75 and I have never had a pace of play problem. No houses littering the course. The only negative i have is that it's 45 min from me.

Best public value is Grapevine Municipal 3x9s, always in good shape, and not expensive. Plus pace of play is normally good there.
