epoxy popping/air bubbles?

so i was reshafting a club a few minutes ago, and i noticed as i was pushing the head on the epoxy starting popping. like, air bubbles popping. it felt like air pressure was pushing the head back off the shaft as well. i was using the golf works tour epoxy. i've never had something like this happen, so it naturally concerned me. anybody else had this happen? and what should i do in the future or is it not a big deal?

Were you using a pulled shaft or a new shaft. If it was a pulled one did you clear the old epoxy??

pulled shaft. i thought i had cleaned off the tip pretty well by resanding and cleaning with acetone. do i need to do more?

 

and i'm excited for the ozik to arrive. :russian_roulette:

Sounds like there is old epoxy inside the shaft tip which needed to be drilled out to let the air up though the shaft.

I think you will have to start again.

Drill out the old epoxy with a small drill bit. CAREFULLY not to damage the shaft inside!!!!!

Clean the hosel and shaft tip again and you should be good to go again.

 

I don't think you have any other option but somebody else might chime in with one???????

I usually just use a nail and a hammer to remove the old epoxy, I put the shaft in the vise and set the nail in the middle of the shaft and gently tap it out. The only issue is that if you want to resave the grip you dont have any way of getting the old epoxy out. I perfer this method to having to use a drill bit inside the shaft...

I use the drill bit method - a tiny little wood bit (with the raised middle to start your hole exactly where you want it.)

 

I had the same thing happen when I used a 9g tip weight - the air was trapped. Since this is my own driver, I simply taped the head to the shaft while it cured. If this was anyone else's driver, I would have made it a 8.5g tip weight, by cutting a little slot for the air to escape.

 

But it sounds like epoxy in the tip (like cannon said).

When you use the 9g tip weights - the ones without vent holes - plaace them into the hosel FIRST, then insert the shaft.
