Louisville Niblicks

I'd so say. In fact, anything made out of persimmon qualifies as classic to me. Plus, the niblicks are modeled after the Stan Thompson Gintys, which are definitely classic.

I found a couple of niblicks at a Goodwill last summer, though they were laminated maple instead of persimmon. They really get the ball up in the air easily. Leave weird divot marks, too, with that keel shaped sole. But good clubs, imo.

And if you play persimmon, you're my friend

Hit 'Em. Cannot anser your specific query, never hit a Louisville Niblick. Would surmise they would be a high quality option for new persimmon woods. Alternatively, one could pickup a very nice set of classic persimmon woods at that price point. With prudent shopping. Making an interest known in these chronicles. Perhaps, some Hogan Apex woods to go along with the II's.

I ended up getting one new on Ebay for just under $80. 4 wood. Wonderful club. It's new to my rotation, but I very much like it already.

Saw Stan Thompson Ginty 1,3 7 woods sometime ago and could not pull the trigger. I don't like laminated woods as a personal thing.

Don;t like them in golf clubs and never liked them in construction ( but every house built after 1980's all have the engineered wood in the framing ).

Even knowing the 1 wood was kind of rare.

How would you describe the face progression compared to other fairway woods? I am looking for a persimmon wood with the least amount. Thanks!

I wasn't familiar with the term "face progression." After looking it up, based on the fact that I've only played a few different woods and have not really taking note of the face progression of each, I don't think I'm a reliable source for describing the relative face progression compared to other woods.

Rather than potentially lead you astray, I took a couple pictures of an unshafted 7 wood head I just picked up to go along with the 4 wood. I hope it's helpful. I included a ball to try and provide perspective.

I'd say the Louisville Classic 50s range qualifies as "classic" ... the rest of their non-hickory range, for me, is an excellent attempt to style persimmon into a larger modern head to compete with metals.

The Niblicks are quite over-size vs a traditional pear-shaped persimmon head ... I had a 4 that I lent to someone and never got back, which was ok as it was so closed it looked odd, although to this day I still hit my best ever fairway wood shot with that club :)

I still have a 5 Niblick, steel-shafted, that is a great club, especially out of the rough. It's in a bag with a Bluegrass Bomber special edition driver (basically a Thumper Max with a fancy insert), and a Thumper Max 3-wood. All of them are quality clubs and pretty easy to hit well.

I'll try and get out into the garden tomorrow and take a few group photos of my "Louisville dozen", and then upload them all on here.

Here's the whole collection :

Set 1: Bluegrass Bomber Driver, Thumper Max 3-Wood, Niblick 5-Wood

Set 2: Smart Driver, 3-Wood, 5-Wood

Set 3: Classic 50s Driver, 3-Wood, 4-Wood, 5-Wood

Odd Clubs: California Classic Driver (apparently "one-of-a-kind"), Elmore Just Limited Edition 5-Wood

And finally a pic to show the over-size nature of the Niblick 5-wood vs the traditional Classic 50s sizing :

Louisville make very nice equipment, as you can see ... :)

The Niblick is 41", 442.1g (15.6 oz), and swing weight D2.7 and the Classic 50s 5-Wood is 41.5", 475.2g (16.8 oz) and E2.1 ... (got to love the precision of the Golfsmith digital swing weight scale :) )

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
