Partial Insertion of a 757 into a 905R

How will depth effect feel?

I have a used Tour Spec 757 in S flex that is untipped. I've pulled the V2 in my 905 R into which I want to put this 757. With it untipped and to get it to play at 44 3/4" I can insert it 1 5/8" with no butt trim. Anyone got any idea how this shaft will play at that depth, again, with it untipped?

I have an untipped 757 in my 580XD TP and I wish it was slightly stiffer.

If it matters, my SS is about 105-108 and I'm a hitter.

I'll let the "Club Builders" comment on the effect of insertion depth on stiffness, but it may play a little weaker than you want based on your experience with the 580.

 

Playing Titleist drivers over the years - they have never felt as "solid" when they were not fully inserted.

Fully insert it and add a extension to bring it back to what ever you want. I did this with my 983k with a tour 757 it felt really nice and tip stiff.

If you're going with a standard 757, you'll want to do a blind bore install. You (or your clubbuilder) will have have to cut the shaft at the hosel and drill out the remaining shaft to a depth of 1 5/8". Then just install the 757.

 

Much of the 'feel' of a 757 is based on a relatively soft butt section, but cutting shorter than 45" you'll find the 757 plays a bit stouter than the stated flex.

 

 

If you must have a full bore insertion, then I'd just buy a 905 w/ Titleist Speeder. Although the Q/A and tolerances on the Titleist Speeder aren't as tight, it is basically a 757 with a 4" PTS to accommodate the bore thru. But I would NOT install a real 757 full bore....unless you're an absolute monster or you just want to tinker (like installing a R flex full bore---this will probably play close to X+) go with the blind bore instal.

I've already pulled the V2 out of the R. I prefer to play a driver at 44 1/2- 44 3/4". I can insert the shaft to 1 5/8" to get this length. I was wondering how the shaft will feel if I insert it 1 5/8". The shaft is presently untipped. I will plug the sole.

It'll play to flex at that insertion depth...run of the mill stiff. Full insertion is great for anyone with stone hands and a preference for hard fades.

 

1.75" insertion will give a bottom bore to groundline measure of 1.5" which is slightly on the high side of standard bore. A typical 757 stiff will freq in the low 260cpm range at 45" D2-D4 in a standard bore.
