Golf near Rocky Mountain National Park

Should I play Estes Park, or what are your other recommendations? Will be camping at the park in August.

I've only played the 9 hole course in Estes, so I don't know about the 18. If the 18 is anything like the 9 holer it's only for if you really need a golf fix, nothing special at all, except for playing at elevation. There is another course on the other end of RMNP, Grand Lake. I did play that one and it was a fairly nice course, but at the time they were tearing down a TON of trees due to beetle infestation. I've got no idea how much more they were taking down, but it was a big difference from the website pictures to what it actually was. That was 7 years ago though so lots of time to change.

By all means play the Estes Park 18 hole course. It offers a very fair test for all golfers plus beautiful vistas and lots of wildlife. It's usually kept in very good shape as well. Don't be surprised if elk wander out on the fairway you're about to tee off on or decide to take a nap in front of a green you're about to hit an approach shot to. Be prepared for all kinds of potential weather as well. I played one round that started sunny and in the seventies and ended in sleet and in the forties. I consider it a must play Colorado course.

The front nine of the EPcourse is built on an old air force base landing strip. The back nine is mountain golf. I throughouly enjoy playing it. The course will let you play the back nine starting t 0700 and following the mowers. Really beautiful being on the course as the sun rises. Make sure you leve time to have breakfast in the Hanger Restraurant. Great servings and inexpensive.

Pole Creek is closer to Winter Park but has 27 holes. Fun place to play.

I'm going to try and play the par 3 at Estes one day as a warmup and then 18 another day (will be there 4 days). I doubt if anyone will know the answer to this, but what is the deal there with "no children under 9 allowed anywhere on the course?" My little golfing buddy is almost 5, and I've been taking him to the local course and the driving range with me for two years (he's been hitting balls since he could walk and is obsessed with golf). Get comments all the time about his golf knowledge and how well behaved he is. Anyway, he'll be upset he can't tag along, and I was curious about the policy because I've never seen that before.
