First attempt at salvaging a Scotty Studio Style

Hey all,

First post to the forums, I decided to try my hand at salvaging a pretty beat up Scotty. I bought this one here on the forums and she's pretty beat up. Here are the before's... hang tight for the afters ;)

The plan is to do a two-tone torch job... will post the pics after I get home tonight

After removing all the dings and dents, I polished her up to 000 steel wool. We've got a pretty decent mirror finish going. I really wanted to remove the dings on the face, but didn't want to send her out to get re-milled. I was thinking about removing the mill marks all together, but wasn't sure about the sacrilege of removing the face mill.

I ended up removing a good amount of material, not sure how much, I should probably weigh her after I finish.

Next up was to remove the insert and start the torch job! Here are the pics post torching.

Looks nice so far, but why a mirror finish on the top and back?

Thanks! The reason I went to a high polish mirror finish, is I thought that it would make the torching stand out a little bit more. I also wanted to do the work in my garage, I thought about sending it out to be media blasted, just didn't want to sacrifice the time/money. Is there another way to go? Maybe stop the polishing around 400 grit for a brushed finish?

[/quote]There is nothing negative about a mirror polish, it's your putter you can do it however you want. I like the polished look and don't have glare issues "as others are deathly afraid of", my opinion is the glare comes from a polished chrome finish not torched bronze or blue.
I sand mine all the way through to minimum of 2000 and sometimes 3000. And yes you colors will be much brighter & crisper.

All personal preference of course. Polished bare metal is certainly the worst. I find polished dark metals will have hotspots in bright sun.

Thanks for the info! I actually ended up giving this away as a birthday present to a buddy of mine. Here are the final pics... It could use a little cleaning up on the flange there.
