Palmer 85 lofts

Just recently finished my first 9 (a par 3) with my palmer 85 standard blades and really like them (granted I hit all shots with them off the tee - 7 iron on down, minus a few pw chips hear and there), but was wondering if anyone had any clue on the loft of the iron set (3-pw)? Was looking to complete the bag with wedges but unsure where to start (so really I guess I'm just wondering the pw loft). Thanks for any help!

If you have a smartphone, there are some good free apps that enable you to lean the phone on a surface (in this case the club face in the address position) to measure the angle.

That sounds quite strong for a PW in a set of this vintage. Quite likely that it has moved through repeated impact maybe ?

I don't have any info for the Palmer Standard 85s, but I'd think it more likely that PW would have been around 49-51

The appendix in my Maltby 'Golf Club Repair in pictures' guide lists the Pro Group Peerless, same mid 80s vintage, same company, also a blade, so I would think it would be close.

I was pretty shocked at first too. I did a few measurements just to make sure and was able to repeat results a few tes in a row (even took the club off the bench and reset it each time to try and validate. I'll definitely double check tonight.

They felt closer distance-wise to older iron sets I grew up using, which would be great because I was more comfortable with my distance gaps/yardages with more "traditional" specs. Made things more even throughout the bag. I'm hoping this morning was user error....

Welp- "measure twice, cut once" as the old saying goes...checked the nine iron too just to make sure. The pw is definitely 51 and the 9i was 46.

Palmer lofts were 21/24/27/31/35/39/43/47/51 from 2-pw. I looked into this when I got my first set about 14 years ago.

FWIW, I just went 20/23/26 for the 2-4 and went 4° from there to a 50° PW. Roughly the same thing. <shrug>

Measured my old Axiom 9 iron at 47 if that helps. Used the iPhone app.

I'm thinking my 9i was closer to 47 too. The number kept bouncing a little between 46-47. Either way this helps. I've got 54 and 58 degree wedges I really like so those will work pretty well to round out the bottom end of the bag. I might have to look for that 2-iron now tho.
