I've been working on my game and swing trying to get back into form after abdominal surgery. Here is the list of things working for me.

 

Grip

 

The grip pressure with my right hand must be feather light. Any tension and my index finger and thumb take over, steer the swing, and impede my swing plane.

 

Posture

 

We must learn to activate and hold our core abdominal muscles. This has been the hardest part of my technique to regain. Surgery caused me to lose core strength. With the core activated, I can maintain spine angle through the swing. The club bottoms out in the right places.

 

Takeaway

 

I was never a fan of the one piece takeaway, but I am using a modified version. I take the club away about a foot behind the ball with the arms, club, and hands together. Then, I let the writs hinge naturally.

 

Power

 

Power is a function of good technique and proper club fitting. I'm a club longer than before the surgery. This surgery was instrumental in giving me time to upgrade my clubs and get my swing back in shape.

 

Short game

 

Well, it still stinks. But, I remember to slap the bounce of the wedge into the turf. Wrists remain soft.

 

Putting

 

I let my eyes and brain do the work. No more conscious thought about distance or direction. Just see it and feel it.
