Waliea Golf Club (Maui, Hawaii)

Hi Golf WRX,

 

I have an upcoming trip to Maui in early September and have decided to play at the Waliea Golf Club. Which of the 3 courses, Blue, Emerald and Gold would the community recommend for 18 holes? The website states all courses have an ocean view, but which course is the most picturesque?

Not sure if you already played, but I played emerald yesterday. It was a sweet resort course track. Wide fairways, receptive greens. Great views of mountain and ocean on just about every hole. They recently punched but I think emerald is in better shape than gold.

Highly recommend.

Yes, they normally punch greens this time of the year...I lived in Hawaii for the past 6 years (Army), Emerald is a very nice golf course, but!!!!!!!, if you can, go and play the Plantation Course (Kapalua), you will never forget it, oh play the middle tees (I am a 3 hcp) you will enjoy it better, I played it a few times, twice from the tips (just see how hard it is for the pros), but when we moved up one tee, it was very enjoyable (I didn't say easy)...call the courses before you play (like today) and find out which greens have been punched, just to have a better experience...good luck...ALOHA!!!

Blue is an older course with less character than the emerald and gold. Between the emerald and gold there isn't much difference.

Emerald and gold are similar. Blue is more laid back, wider, easier. I like Blue but always seem to get paired up with some locals who are smoking weed half the time. Been having that issue on Kaanapali Kai course lately too. Been playing golf there 15 years. It was not an issue till about 2 years ago. I dont care if they smoke weed, I just dont want to play with them anymore than I would some idiot drunk. It jst ruins the fun.

The Emerald course is not terribly difficult and it's a fun track to play with some nice views. It's also pretty cool because there are holes with lava rock integrated into the design. I'd also highly recommend it!
